My first visit to the Millbrae Paris Baguette Cafe.
Only one, single, solitary tongs available for customer use. Kind of surprising given the signage on every pasty case door and sneezeguard over six different areas advising the customer to use them. Weirdly confusing I'm the way the a politician says things they do not really believe in.
Everything here has a sweet and sticky coating. Not my idea of the perfect croissant. If you are looking for a plain excellent croissant the look elsewhere. But if you want the sweet coating then at least the croissant itself is good.
The cappuccino is decently passable. But then it was fresh made
However, coffee here is lukewarm at best. If you are a coffee person I advise you to have coffee at some other location. I hung around for a while and never saw the coffee area serviced. The coffee area itself needs to be laid out better as well. I pity the person who might come here during a rush in the morning. They will be in a human traffic jam.
The cheesecake here is not bad at all. It Is a slice that has a light and even texture topped with fresh strawberry half and raspberry. The size is kind of small for the $5 price. When served it comes presented on a big standard paper plate. The lack of a Chinese option destroys the presentation. So I put the overall value somewhat sub-par for slice of cheesecake on the peninsula.
Paris Baguette Cafe also one the few businesses serving average pastries and cakes (cheesecake) with signage telling the customer not to take pictures. Could it be related to the lack of tongs?
One thing at Paris Baguette Cafe the is simply the worst is the WiFi. It's supposedly available. The WiFi password is the same as the phone number. But the local authorization portal is not setup. So there is really no public WiFi access at all.
Overall Paris Baguette Cafe is not the worst business of its type have been to. They even get my vote as a passable alternative for a croissant over almost every other chain name business. But they have areas needing improvement. Even so, give Paris Baguette Cafe in...
Read moreToday was a very off and rude experience. Eric was the only nice man here trying to fix anything. I bought a salad and several pastries for my teens to take home. I mentioned how warm it was outside and what kind of iced drink was recommended. I ordered and thought everything was fine. He did not offer a bag before the full purchase and I didn't notice until after I paid. I kindly asked for a bag with handles due the box and salad container and then holding a drink wouldn't be easy. He then told me and showed me bag 'options" from a quarter to fifty cents. No problem, I gave him a quarter as I wasn't going to run my debit card again and had a quarter in my purse luckily He put my food items in a bag and I did not touch any bags or bag the items so I assumed I received the 25 cent bag. As I was waiting for my drink, I noticed after a long wait they made mine hot not cold, they did not take my name or give me a number so I was unaware it was my mixed up drink order. I politely asked the gentleman if there was a mix up or if that was mine. Eric politely started making the correct drink. Then another man said YOU ORDERED HOT. I said oh I'm sorry I am pretty sure I said iced and mentioned the weather bring warm and wanting something cold that would hit the spot. One man told me there was a price difference, I guess for ice??? I asked how and he had to go look at the menu to see if the hot or cold prices were different as he didn't even know. He could not tell me then he told me I owed another quarter for a bag fee??? I told him, oh I thought you gave me the quarter bag I purchased but ok.....they were so rude I told them to refund me on the whole order because he threw a quarter on the table from his tip jar..... over reacting. A few cents over a $40 order? I will not be back. They nickle and dime you over their miscommunication. What I thought wasn't a big deal turned into a ridiculous waste of time. Be very clear when you order drinks the lady before me had the same problem...
Read moreParis Baguette in Millbrae is a spacious bakery cafe with a lot to offer. It's likely the biggest one in the Bay Area (I think), boasting a huge selection of cakes, sandwiches, drinks, salads, and snacks. Finding a seat is easy thanks to the ample indoor seating, and parking is a breeze with the free parking lot. The staff is friendly and attentive, making the overall experience pleasant.
Hits
Selection: Huge variety of cakes, pastries, sandwiches, salads, and drinks.
Convenience: Plenty of seating, free parking, and staff willing to heat up your food (even for to go orders).
Strawberry Soft Cream Cake: Light, airy bread, smooth and perfectly balanced cream. Delicious!
Garlic Sausage Pastry: Flaky, crispy pastry with a good balance of sweet and savory flavors. Just wish it was heated through.
Misses
Egg Sandwich: Bland and disappointing, lacked any flavor.
Soft Strawberry Cheesecake: Just okay, nothing special for the price.
Price: Definitely pricier than other bakeries.
Overall, Paris Baguette is a good option for a quick and convenient bakery cafe experience. However, the uneven quality of the food and the higher price point bring the rating down to 3 stars. If you're looking for a specific pastry or cake, it's...
