I recently visited The Fish Sushi in Millbrae during happy hour and was pleasantly surprised by the experience. The food was tasty, and the prices offered excellent value, especially if you’re looking for a few rolls rather than an all-you-can-eat feast. It’s definitely a great deal for sushi lovers on a budget.
The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the quality of the sushi. Each roll was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The menu offered a good variety of options, ensuring that there was something to suit every taste. Given the affordability of the happy hour specials, I found the overall experience to be a fantastic bang for the buck.
However, the service did leave something to be desired, though it was clearly not the fault of the hardworking staff. Unfortunately, there was only one server managing the entire restaurant on Memorial Day, leading to delays and a somewhat hectic atmosphere. Despite her best efforts, it was evident that she was overwhelmed, running around like a chicken with her head cut off. It would have been much better if the management had scheduled additional help to handle the holiday crowd.
In spite of the service hiccup, my overall experience at The Fish Sushi was positive, and I will definitely be returning. The delicious food and great value make it worth a visit, and hopefully, next time, there will be more staff on hand to ensure a smoother dining experience.
Update: I recently came back to Naked Fish in Millbrae for lunch with a friend. The service was a little better this time, but the waiter was still very slow and forgot one of my sushi rolls. I had to ask twice for a refill on my green tea, and my friend had to ask twice for water. Despite this, I think it’s still worth checking out for the quality of the food. The sushi is fresh and tasty, making it a worthwhile...
Read moreI have been going here for years, back when they first opened. The decor is simple and has plenty of TVs to watch sports etc. Service is always fast and prompt. The lady was always checking on us to see if we needed anything else, etc.
I'm sure they are under new ownership because I've seen a few new additional food items, and I'm not complaining. This is part of the reason why I came back again so soon.
We ordered:
Calamari- this is a must order every time we go here. Lightly fried with onions and jalapeños.
Gyozo - I always crave this and it always hits the spot
Beef short rib - perfect portion and perfect balance of meat and fattiness which I love.
Age dashi tofu - pieces were a little bigger than what I'm use to but perfect balance of crunch and firmness.
Crunchy giants - this is a tasty one. To be honest I've tried a bunch of the signature rolls especially when I'd go here and they have happy hour specials
Honey moon roll- if you like honey walnut prawns this is for you
Bento box - huge portions for the price. We typically get anything they have they are all good.
Yaki udon - This is new. The noodles tasted so fresh, chewy, and bouncy. I'm not sure how else to describe it. You can just tell when you require take a bite, it's not some version of a chowmein. We got this one with steak.
Sake sampler - highly recommend if you're not sure which...
Read moreNaked Fish Millbrae serves delicious bento meals as well as sushi. Their bento selection is to choose three(3) items (see my menu photos) from the menu. Vegetable tempura is the standard type of batter but the katsu are coated with what appears to be a fried chicken batter: crispy, not greasy with juicy meat within. My pork tonkatsu was light, crispy & juicy within. The sushi is a tad on the small side. Another selection of steak teriyaki with saba shiyoyaki is also delicious. Nothing is saturated with soy sauce. I doubt they use any MSG/monosodium glutamate or my face would have swelled up. As you enter the restaurant, the sushi bar is on your right, cashier straight ahead with a fast seating arrangement ahead of the cashier (see photos). Turn right beyond the sushi bar, main seating. Way beyond that to the wall are the restrooms. The far left is a large kitchen in which you can watch them prepare your meals. Four stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️only because the take out bento portions were on the small side. The staff is responsive, professional & knowledgeable, accommodating to senior...
