Short version: 4% fee tacked on your bill. Small portions. Salsa meh. Beautiful ambient.
Longer: This is one of the finest themed restaurants I've visited. Gorgeous, beautiful. It's painful to say this, but I think this is a Mexican restaurant that may not please actual Latinos/Mexicans. Why? 2 top reasons: the portions are fancy small and the salsa is a watery tomato like liquid. In Latin America, salsa is practically everything. Good salsa is like drinking the soul of the forest. Here, it's watery with no seasonings found in common salsas. Some other reviewers say the same. Portions are small. Anyone who visited many Mexican spots know that 4 tacos to a plate are common. Here, it's 3 to a plate and they are like mini tacos. We laughed memorably at their size. Literally $14 for 3 small tacos.
Now the food was artisanal-like. The tortillas on the small tacos were a golden gentle crisp that was also flexible. This is hard to achieve. The Mexican frijoles were a delicious experience. There's some experimenting going on here that is working super well.
Your bill has 4% tacked on if you pay by credit card. It seems they want to charge you the credit card fees and probably an extra 1.5% for using a credit card. With the current prices, it's almost insulting they offset credit card costs to the customer. This alone removes 1 star. In my opinion, I believe this place is catering to the area, which has more Americans. I think their salsa is intentionally watery bland so it's...
Read moreThis was mine and my husbands first time dining here. We arrived in the afternoon on Sunday 1/5/25 and were immediately greeted and taken to a table. The restaurant is beautiful and I enjoyed looking around at all the art. Our waiter was the same man that greeted us at the door. He promptly gave us water, chips and salsa. We noticed he seemed to be the only person assisting people in the dining area. We ordered mocktails which took some time to get. Then I saw our waiter behind the bar making them. He then delivered the drinks to our table and apologized for the delay. I asked him if he was all alone and he calmly responded that he was. I was blown away by how one person was managing so many things and remained so calm while doing it. Eventually our food came out. I ordered Vegetarian Enchiladas with mole sauce and my husband ordered crispy vegetarian tacos. Both meals were terrific! The mocktails were delightful as well. We never felt neglected or any negative vibes while there. Towards the end of our meal another gentleman arrived and proceeded to help our waiter. Sadly, we did not get the name of our waiter, but I hope he knows what a wonderful job he did! We will absolutely...
Read moreDo NOT go on Cinco De Mayo!
I was so excited about visiting this place with my kids because of the festive decor and glowing reviews on the food. That said, we arrived at 545p and didn't leave till almost 8p. Service was ridiculously slow. The staff had major attitude and long waits for simple requests. Our server had to be flagged down multiple times every time. Even to take our order and to request the check! I've never seen my husband get so frustrated and upset with how we were treated; he's a patient man. Poor guy's food got cold waiting 30 minutes for hot sauce and then noticed we got charged for hot sauce (?). So disappointed. Manager blamed it on Cinco de Mayo and their take out volume but really-we were there before 6p when the restaurant was practically empty. How can you treat your in-house patrons like that? Not to mention the ones with kids. (The table next to us had a toddler as well and had to wait to be served water for 40 mins they said; not sure about food but they were so frustrated.) Won't...
