This is my first negative review, ever. I would like to start off by saying that it was my first experience with Millburn Deli. My issue is with the Millburn location. Not the Westfield location.
After school today, with my three children, I went to Westfield to do some errands. We were all hungry so I ordered a snack from the Millburn Deli. I was parked right across the street from the restaurant, the Westfield location. I went onto their website while seated in the car and I placed my order. I was waiting for another non-food item to be ready for pick up and the kids and I were killing time in the car and then as we walked around Westfield. I chose to order online. My first experience, I will remind everyone, with this restaurant.
When I placed the order which was only around $30 and change for three meals, I did not realize at the time, that I had actually placed the Millburn deli order for the Millburn location. Again, my very first time seeing the Millburn deli and having an experience with them. I did not know that there was an actual Millburn location. Did think that it was strange. The fact of the deli was called Millburn deli when in fact, located in Westfield, but , when you are a mother of three you're not thinking about these details. You're thinking about the errands, feeding your children, and getting home.
Fast-forward to about 45 minutes later. I walk in to Millburn deli in Westfield to pick up my order. I was told that I had ordered from the wrong location. I had ordered from the Millburn location. I went back to the car put in the address for the Millburn location and discovered that they were closed! Closed at 5:30p. My order was to be ready at 5:05 PM but by the time I finally walked into the deli, in Westfield, it was 5:35pm.
I went back into the deli (Westfield). I asked to speak with the manager. Koury was very nice and immediately texted! the Millburn location manager on duty to see if they could still help me. Koury apologized that their policy was to not to do refunds but that if I went to Millburn right now, they would have my food. I will also say that this deli does have strange policies. Not only could I not get a refund (which I don't want), but I would have to order and pay for the food again if I wanted to order from Westfield.
Lol - No.
I thanked Koury and was on my way. I never wanted a refund. Remember, I have three kids to feed. I told Koury I would be to the Millburn Deli - Millburn location - in 20 minutes. He said no problem. They would be there.
Here's my reason for leaving this review... I calmly but as quickly as I can, head to Millburn Deli in Millburn. I understand they're closed but they have a cleaning procedure so I know they're still there. I am 5 minutes away when I receive a call from the Millburn Deli - Millburn staff woman.
Me: Hello Deli: This is Millburn Deli, where are you? Me: Stunned with the attitude but respond very slowly. "I am five minutes away Ma'am. Deli: Okay, well I need to go. I'll leave the bag outside on the chair. Me: shocked.
I arrive and hop out of the car. We notice people are still inside!! But our food is in a brown bag on the chair... outside the restaurant.
Millburn Deli, Westfield, nice job. Did the best you could (I'm assuming).
Millburn Deli MILLBURN - 1 star. I will not be returning to your establishment. I hope corporate reads this and gives that manager/staff woman who called me (4/16/2024 PM shift), a lesson in customer service because that was not it. I'm...
Read moreEDIT: As promised by the owner's response you can order custom sandwiches now online via their home grown ordering system -- awesome.
Deli sandwiches are pricey but delicious - in my opinion, worth it. But build your own sandwiches online appear to be wildly expensive - upwards of 8 or $9 per major ingredent. Makes it pretty much impossible to build your own unless you're building something that has just one meat and one cheese -- but maybe I'm misunderstanding how the online build your own sandwich options work - for example, an Italian sub with the exact same meats that the std menu item has shouldn't cost four times (50$+!!) the amount unless they are also putting four times the amount of meat on? I'll have to take a screenshot next time I try to order online... Can't be that much additional labor to go off the menu. Why can't I pick three or four meats and you split the volume between them? I'll pay a premium for the trouble and I'd pay a little bit more for extra meat to boot , but I'm not forking over 8 or $9 per meat when I want three or four of those. Every other deli takes custom sandwiches without charging such a premium. I don't get it.... Maybe they just want to discourage people and push them towards packaged options.
I can say as an existing customer, I'd love to be able to build my own here - they have great ingredient options, but the online menu is simply price prohibitive.
Can't really dig the restaurant for these but:
You may have to get creative during lunch to park, its a mess on the street with the meters and the parking lot has been nearly impossible to get in or out of the last three times I've come by. I've seen people double Park but it seems like bad form on a street that's so busy. It's unfortunate because their sandwiches are great and I'd probably come more often if Millburn itself wasn't so difficult to get in and out of quickly.
Be careful if you come for a later lunch. It seems like the kids come by there a lot (after school is out I guess) and it gets pretty busy. They have a good system in place to get the sandwiches out quick though, so as long as you're there at the right time shouldn't have to...
Read moreI placed an order for 11 sloppy joes on Saturday May 18 th to be picked on Sunday May 19th. for a party. The place was very crowded, I parked a few blocks away . I waited in line , when it was my turn I said I was there to pick up my order , gave her my name and “Morgan “ turned to me and said that order was for yesterday. I placed the order I never told her that I needed the order for Saturday. I asked if they were opened on Sunday, and I would pick it up at 12:30 when I got out of work. When I placed the order she never asked me for my phone number , I would think that if I’m ordering 11 sandwiches that cost $125.00 they would automatically ask for a phone every other take out asks for one. All they could say was “I’m sorry” , your SORRY, they didn’t offer to make them over for me ! I was so MAD at their ATTITUDE ! I went back to my car and called the Manager to complain , and all he could say was how sorry he was! I needed the sandwiches so I decided to waitfor them ,they never told me they were ready . I got back in line and had to ask for them, the manager ,owner which ever one he was never came over , he could of cared less! To top it off when I got home there was one sandwich missing , I called and Miss Morgan answered and offered to make me another one and I could go pick up !!! Really at this point all I wanted was a refund ! The manager said I didn’t have to there he could it from his end and that was just fine ! I have no intention of ever going there again , the sloppy joes were a great disappointment, you could tell they were thrown together in a hurry! I have worked in retail since my teens, never have we treated a customer with the attitude that we didn’t care , like I was treated. The mistake was on the person that answered the phone to take the order! Maybe they should make up new order forms to include a call back...
