Roma in Erie, Pennsylvania - 1.5 Stars
Decor: The interior decor of Roma feels like an attempt at modern Italian dining by someone with a background in designing for TGIF or Chili’s. The result is an ambiance that feels dated despite the restaurant being relatively new. Signs of wear are already visible in various areas, giving the impression that maintenance and upkeep are not prioritized.
Service: The service at Roma is a significant disappointment. For the size of the dining area, the number of waitstaff is woefully inadequate. We sat for over 20 minutes without any acknowledgment from the staff. Despite our efforts to catch someone's attention, we were repeatedly ignored. It's clear that the staff is overwhelmed, running around frantically, which points to a severe staffing and management issue.
Food: The food at Roma was unfortunately terrible. The house salad consisted of a skimpy amount of lettuce, which was wilted and browning. My “Roma’s Favorite” sausage pasta was a disaster: undercooked pasta, mediocre broccoli rabe, and what seemed like half a cup of low-grade olive oil pooling at the bottom of the plate. The sausage was the only somewhat redeeming part of the dish. Additionally, I sampled someone else's Chicken Marsala, which was equally disappointing. Feels like what a line chef from Applebees interpretation of Italian food would be.
Overall: My experience at Roma was regrettable, and I don't see myself returning. This experience is sadly reflective of the dining scene in Erie, where new restaurants are few and far between, and the excitement for them often turns into disappointment. Poor food, poor service, and an overall unfortunate experience make Roma a place I...
Read moreWent on Saturday at 8:30am I had my 2 kids with me 5 & 8. We were Seated right away. Waited over 5 minutes for someone to acknowledge us, and that was just to say she would be right with us. 3-4 minutes later she takes our drink orders. I asked for water with the kids got chocolate, cause I know it is going to be really hot. I ordered coffee. Drink took at least another 5-7 minutes to arrive. She mentioned the hot choclate was really hot, but didn’t bring the ice water. My coffee came, no creamer on the table, she stopped by 3-4 minutes later and said oh did I forget the creamer....at least she did come right back with that. The kids breakfast came 10 minutes later, but mine was mia....the kids were more then done when mine showed up. I ordered the chicken Florentine crepes, the plate arrived room temp, cheese wasnt melted and no spinach....I started eating and 5 minutes later she pops over the divider and asks if everything was ok. I then asked again for ice water and a refill for the hot chocolate, she said she would have to charge us again. I go back to eating and stop the manager that was walking by, and ask him if my dish was supposed to have spinach on it, he said yea at the bottom. I moved stuff around and said nope not here....he rolls his eyes and apologized and asked if I wanted a new one. Nope. She comes by a few minutes later with the bill. I don’t even look at it, but a few short minutes later while I am still eating, she comes by and asks if she can take the check for me. Uhhh sure let me stop eating and get my purse out....I give her the check and she comes right back. The fastest service I received was at the end....not going...
Read moreWe stopped in for dinner tonight for our anniversary. We were seated immediately and the waitress was quick to greet us. We ordered the Fried calamari, eggplant Parmesan, mushroom ravioli, with tiramisu and Neapolitan ice cream for dessert. The calamari was really good. The eggplant Parmesan was decent but too much Plano crumbs IMO. The sauce was in desperate need of more garlic. The mushroom Ravioli was very good but just like the red mushroom sauce it was in need of garlic too. Though the food was good the service went mia for almost 25min from the time we got our entree at 830 till they offered us the dessert menu at 855. They apologized but were in a hurry that we never got a refill on our drink. The restaurant closes at 10 but all the staff seemed really busy with their cleaning jobs at around 8:40ish that we got forgotten. There were vacuum’s running and people sweeping. Another table got forgotten too that the guy got up to find his waitress to give her the bill to be paid. His waitress was near but was busy cleaning around them and not fully waiting on them. I finally got tired of waiting that I asked another employee for water but instead of refilling they just alerted our waitress and we waited longer for a refill. Our dessert came which was delicious and ginormous in portions. A group of young girls came in for a meal but no one was there at the entrance so one of them had to go find someone. She looked liked she worked there or her family is involved in the business somehow because she was confused there was no hostess at the front to get them. Anyway if you read this far sorry to ramble. It was decent food but the service needs...
