As locals we really wanted for the place to work. Our first experience there was good about 4 months ago. Food was nice, servers pleasant and owner even came out and spoke to us. Sadly the last three times we have been it has just continued to decline. We had one other experience I would call just ok. About three weeks ago on a Saturday morning we waited 10 minutes to be seated because there were multiple tables empty but piled with dishes. I looked around at the few scattered tables and no one had food. Which seemed odd to me but we went on. We ordered and waited an additional 45 minutes for grits, scrambled eggs and ham which looked and tasted more like luncheon meat. I was embarrassed for them- this was a meal my teenager could have prepared better in half the time. We ate, they apologized, my partner decided it was just a bad day. I was prepared to write them off after that experience. Today we went in, got seated reasonably quickly- mind you every other restaurant in downtown had a wait and line out the door- just an observation. We ordered our drinks, and were about to order our food when they suddenly announced they were having to close. Appears from what I have read something is going on with exhaust fan and has been for a few weeks. All six tables had to get up and leave- some had obviously been waiting on food. If there was an issue they should have never opened and stopped seating customers when it became apparent. Not sure what is going on, but from other reviews it appears owner is often not there. NO ONE will run your business they way you will. Sadly we won’t be back. The food honestly just isn’t good enough to outweigh the terrible experiences. Hope they can get it together. Even if we may not be back hate to see any...
Read moreThis was my first visit to this fairly new location, established in 2024. As a Black-owned business, we were excited to show our support — that was a big reason we chose to dine here.
Unfortunately, I have to say I left extremely disappointed.
I ordered the Slater’s omelet and the strawberry waffle. Unfortunately, the waffle was thin, dry, and definitely not the Belgian-style I was expecting. The raisin bread was overcooked and hard, and my child’s French toast was burnt and missing powdered sugar. The pork chops were extremely thin, dry, and lacked any real meat — very disappointing.
On top of that, they were running out of major menu items like chicken and waffles. We arrived at 3 PM and there were very few substitute options available.
That said, I do want to acknowledge that the owner made things right when we voiced our concerns about the pork chops, which I appreciated. My omelet and grits were actually quite good.
This review isn’t meant to bash the establishment but to encourage improvements. Better inventory management and consistency in food quality could make a big difference. Milledgeville doesn’t have many Black-owned restaurants, so this place holds special meaning — and with that comes high hopes.
Mr. Hershel, I truly like your establishment and I want to see it thrive. But as of now, I’m not sure...
Read moreThe waitress with the earrings on her face wasn’t attendant to us.We were telling her what we wanted and she stopped and seated a man and child another waitress came and asked if we had been taking care of and I said no the waitress left, she went and got her and then took our order. We had already told her the first order but she forgot it. We finish our order and waited on our food. While waiting, water was coming from the ceiling on my arm and I told her about it. I ordered the traditional breakfast and my friend ordered the pancakes breakfast. Neither was good this time! Grits had some green flakes on top which I didn’t asked for, pancakes wasn’t tasty and eggs had the cheese sprinkle on top and not cooked with the eggs. We wasn’t the only ones disappointed in the food and services here. The waitress was doing too much and not focusing on...
