My husband and I went here on the recommendation of his sister and we weren't disappointed. We went here on a Thursday Evening (Eagles Season Opener) at about 8:30 PM and only had to wait about 15 minutes. The restaurant was obviously loud and rambunctious but that was due to the game. My husband ordered a special cocktail called the sea pickle and enjoyed it. I ordered the seasonal soup as an appetizer (cream of corn, jalapeno, crab soup) which was SO GOOD except it's my opinion that it was a tad too thick and creamy but not enough to prevent me from eating the whole thing. My husband and I both ordered burgers, the texas wedge and plain jane with cheddar; we both agreed they were some of the best burgers we'd ever had. Despite the game and how crowded it was, the wait staff did a fantastic job in getting our drinks and food to us quickly. If you're going specifically to watch a game, there were plenty of TVs for them to display the Eagles Game, Washington Nationals Game and the Tennis match with good line of sight to your favorite.

Let me start by saying this bar was great before the remodel! Great deals for happy hour, and specials through the week. Since the remodel things look nice but the quality has gone down hill drastically. we stopped in with friends the end of july for drinks and snacks after a day on the beach, We ordered dz. oysters and crab dip w/ pitas chips. Oysters came out 4 of the 12 were pallatable and half of them looked like they had been through a meat grinder and the remainder were just disgusting and we did not eat them. The crab dip came out and was very good, there were no pita chips. They gave us greasy homemade potato chips. The chips were so greasy they would not even break they would just bend. We asked for tortilla chips and they came out the same as the potato chips, soggy And greasy. We finally asked for plain old saltine crackers to eat our crab dip with. We asked the waitress to speak to a manager and she sent him over. We started out by telling him we are (native sussex county)local and come here all the time, we are not out for anything free we just want to make you aware of the quality of the food since the remodel has gone downhill. We explained the whole situation to him and we got nothing but excuses for the bad food. He said he has not had any complaints from the over 600 customers they had that day and it was only 2:00 p.m. we found that hard to believe! our response to him was I find it hard to believe that if you served food like this it is amazing that someone else has not complained besides us. we explained we are trying to let you know the food sucked. He was very defensive and very condescending and tried to turn it around that we were the problem. He also made us aware that since the remodel they have a new caliber of "clientele". So, that tells me that the (old, regular, local clientele)must not rate. He needed to learn to take constructive criticism like a manager should. Went there this evening 8/31/22 got the crab dip and again served with greasy potatoe chips instead of pita chips. Oysters were terrible again! Thank god they have...

can’t wait to get the cookie cutter response to this review… been going to Bethany since 91’ and my parents have lived in Ocean View for the last 12 years. Hooked up was convenient because of its location but with all the many new places opening up you can tell the quality of their place continues to free fall. The last two times alone made us cut all ties to the location and after hearing how they treated my parents after almost 5 years of going at least once a week I couldn’t bite my tongue any longer… On two occasions I’ve had worms in my oysters that it’s turned me off from eating them for months now. Come summer season the place practically crumbles with hostesses who sit you at tables without letting servers know and you sit there waiting for service for 20+ minutes, then argue it’s not their job and we ā€œare supposed to flag someone down if we want serviceā€ā€¦ seasonal workers who struggle to manage more than 2 tables at a time… and the bogus ā€œservice feeā€ if you use a credit card (which they do not declare before you use your credit card… ā€œ Surcharge fees are strictly limited to credit card transactions only. Even if a client wishes to run a signature debit transaction, where a debit card is processed as a credit transaction, you are still not allowed to implement a surcharge. Surcharges are also not applicable to prepaid cardsā€ā€¦) the legality behind what they do is questionable including charging a service fee for a pre paid gift card through them! Honestly, if you’re just down for the weekend and visiting the area, trust me when I tell you go ANYWHERE else...

Thought would share a few thoughts about our last couple of visits to Hooked Up. We went last summer with some out of town friends. The restaurant was inundated with flies. It was so bad that our friend asked the waitress if he could have a fly swatter. We were disappointed for our out of town friends because we had good food previously at Hooked Up. So my wife and I waited a couple of months to give you guys another try. We went this past Monday.

  1. when we ordered we specifically asked our waiter to bring out the appetizer first. He said sure no problem. Well needless to say our appetizer and meal came out together. If you can't handle that simple request, tell us. We would have ordered the appetizer first. Then wait until it comes and then order the meal.

  2. The pretzel appetizer came out lukewarm. it was actually cold on the bottom.

  3. The soup we ordered came out lukewarm.

  4. After our meal was brought out by a server, we looked for our waiter to get a refill on drinks. He never came around. I had to go up to the bar and ask for someone to find our waiter.

it wasn't a busy night, it's the off-season. There is no excuse for this subpar experience. We never had a chance to voice any of our concerns to our waiter because he never came by to ask how things were.

There are too many restaurants to choose from in the area. Not sure when we will give Hooked Up...
