I'm going to agree with Gabriel Summers' review from 5 days ago. After reviewing the website, I decided to visit to pick up a BELT Sandwich for lunch (11:30am). I had my wife and Mother-In-Law with me. 1 other customer in the bakery when we arrived. 4-5 employees behind the counter talking amongst themselves, not interested in acknowledging our presence. While roaming the area for a few minutes, my wife grabbed a few impulse items to purchase, and just when a group of 8 -10 people come in, an employee shouts "can I help anyone?" I said yes, I need to order a BELT sandwich to go. She said "just a minute" and left me standing in the middle of the store. Several minutes went by, and my wife asked me what was going on, and I told her they were making my sandwich. We walked over to the checkout area with her items, no line at this time, and was asked if I needed help. Again, I stated I was waiting for a sandwich to be made, and I pointed to the 1st employee standing in the back. The counter person then looked past me and asked "can I help anyone else?" While we stood back, expecting to see a sandwich to go appear, a few more minutes passed before the 1st employee came out and states "we only make sandwiches once a day, early in the morning, and we are out." I then asked if they had my 2nd choice, an egg salad sandwich, and then was told "no". By then, the line in front of us had grown to 6 - 7 people, we had spent many minutes waiting for the item we originally came in for only to finally be told they don't have it, and won't make more today, so we put back my wife's items and exited the store. Yes, everything looks to be quite expensive, and we are not able to comment on the quality of the food they sell. But, with the lack of commitment from the employees, and I assume the ownership/management to be customer focused, (based on mine and Gabriel Summers recent reviews) I can not and will not recommend this establishment. If you can't get the employee / customer relationship right, how can you be trusted to provide quality and value to your food products. And, if you are surprised to see your 2nd 1 star review in just a few days, it just reiterates my point that you are falling way short in...
Read moreIt has for many years been a regrettable experience when entering a Japanese related business to be met with staffers of Japanese American lineage who tend to look down their nose at someone that doesn't share the same heritage. This is especially evident in the state of Hawaii and is particularly prevalent on Oahu, where I resided for ten years. Given that Oregon is home to a community of Hawaii residents of Japanese descent, the metro has its share. The unfortunate effect is openly displayed by (some) people raised to loathe the Caucasian. After several visits to this Happy Valley bakery, I have only once been treated neutrally. I can live with an aloof staffer, albeit I find it unfortunate. My recent visit was neutral enough despite the Asian staff annoyingly huddled behind the counter. The high point was the young Hispanic woman who served me being sweet, sincere, and welcoming. As a Hispanic myself, I enjoyed a moment of ethnic pride as I was treated so well. My message to Tous Les Jours management is to pursue cultural sensitivity training for your staff with emphasis on developing an awareness that their community is multicultural and that the city is cosmopolitan. Knowing that every customer, regardless of real or perceived ethnicity, deserves respect. Frankly, the time has long since passed where a more diverse awareness of who "We" are as a society necessitates the collective recognition of acceptance instead of succumbing to ethnic, racial, social status, and homoohobic mindsets. The bake goods are...
Read moreI like their food and I recommend to stop by and try a few things , it's worth it. There is a lot of variety so I like to add something different each time just to see what my favorite things are. I would say that things taste good , some very good, I didn't eat anything that I would say "amazing". The shop looks beautiful and clean, people who work there are nice, but I think they should make the place more accessible as I always have to rely on the kindness of the customers to hold the big door for me while I push the stroller to get in and the self service method ...from one side I like to take my time to choose what I want and select my favorite things , from the other side 1 they don't require gloves so you never know if someone previously touched the food you choose 2 kids LOVE to touch everything and it's all on their hight so I constantly have to check that they don't open the little glass doors to touch food etc. And then ...pushing a stroller while holding a tray is not practical at all, I wish there was somewhere to put the tray while picking the things , but as I like the food I go there anyway . It's expensive, prices should've been kept a bit lower (they actually just increased them) and yes , they ask for tip after you do all of the self...
