I chose to stay here because it’s very close to the Kaiser Permanente Sunnybrook Medical Office across the street. I stayed here the night before and the night after an outpatient nose surgery to improve my breathing. It was important for me to get to bed right after and to remain nearby during my initial recovery in case I needed to return.
When we checked in the night before, we noticed immediately that the hotel was undergoing significant renovations. This was not disclosed to us while we were booking, but we weren’t bothered since it seemed like everything was in working order (elevators, ice machines, etc.) during our first night. It was very surprising that we hadn’t been warned about this, but we figured that we would have been told ahead of time if anything major (e.g., the elevators) would be affected. Night 1, our room was just fine. No complaints other than the bedside outlets not working and the TV connection being quite slow.
My surgery the next day went very well. Four of the the many important things emphasized to me by my care team at discharge were: 1) don’t exert yourself (could cause bleeding or rupture), but do go for short walks outside as tolerated, 2) use lots of ice, 3) don’t inhale anything harmful (it was a nose surgery to improve my breathing, so this makes sense) and 4) continue to be very careful about avoiding COVID exposures (because how could I heal properly while fighting COVID?). These goals seemed quite reasonable to me at discharge. I returned to this hotel immediately following the surgery eager to rest, and I felt optimistic that I’d be able to check all these boxes and get my recovery off to a good start.
It’s likely I should have just gone home.
Upon returning to the lobby after my discharge, we were met with a large group of construction/renovation workers stirring up all sorts of dust in the main hallway. Two of them were not wearing any sort of mask whatsoever. They did not move to an appropriate 6 ft.+ distance while we passed them to get into the elevator.
Later that evening, we discovered that all of the elevators were suddenly out of order, as were the ice machines.
By this point, I was not doing so great in terms of following my care team’s instructions. In a matter of several hours, suddenly I couldn’t leave the hotel at all without committing to taking the stairs (which would be very irresponsible to do in my position). I was unable to get any ice on my floor. I inhaled a noticeable amount of dust that could be harmful to my nasal passages at any point, but especially so early into healing. And, to top it all off, I got breathed on by maskless workers in very close (less than 2 ft.) proximity.
Ordinarily I would be a little more sympathetic to the hotel for these sorts of problems. However, that the elevators may go out of order is a perfectly foreseeable possibility if they’re undergoing major renovations. We’re a year into the pandemic, so there’s simply no excuse for allowing workers not to wear masks and not requiring them to practice safe distancing from hotel guests. Most importantly, why weren’t we told about any of these renovations over the phone when we were booking? We could have very easily stayed at the other hotel just down the street and avoided...
Read moreWorst check in experience ever. I paid for the stay online and prepaid in full. Went to check in and I threw out my back so I can barely move let alone walk. I lost my ID and my his ands was stolen but he had an electronic copy of the front and back. They refused to let us check in. My husband also had 3 other forms of IDs that also had his picture like a work of and we brought his birth certificate and marriage certificate and he had 3 forms of ID that included his picture. They refused to check us in and the 3rd partt wont cancel because its past the cancel policy so I'm out 200 and I have to sleep in my car with a thrown out back. I've checked people before at Mariott,s with some of the documents I brought and the W, Hilton and every other hotel chain so I will never stay there again. They should have at least been nice. This is not how you treat people. I would never ever recommend this hotel to anyone ever. I looked under this hotels policies and it says all that is needed is a credit card and a picture Id no where does it state that only a state I'd it just says photo i.d. and i have 3 of those plus a birth certificate and a marriage certificate and not to mention all my social media accounts that can prove who I am. The stay is already paid for you dont require an Id I to take my money and they wont take a cash deposit. I cant ssomuchpaissomuchpain and the hotel wasnt even nice or helpful OMG Marriott customer service is a bigger joke I was told I work for the hotel not you so I said you wont even call the hotel or even try and help me? He responded no and hung up on me. Mareiott is not as higher quality hotel at all they are snakes that are more then happy to take your money and run they should be mortified ooverthe horrendous service or lack there of. And couldn't they haveto just have just used my frequent travelers number for the information they 'needed'? My information was enough for them to keepmy creditcard on file i mean really they cant look away my previous stays and see what credit card I used? This is the worst customer service ive ever received in my life. I worked formarriott and I didn't need toone trained on how to hospital thanks Marriott for ruining my week I was already was dealing with more then I can hhandlethey may have jt pushed me over t the edge andfor no reason it was already paid for. so I guess customers are no longer a priority fofoMarrriott dont stay there orthey will just ruined your trip too. . I'd give them a zeroou of...
Read moreVery friendly and helpful. Room service management staff helped me find mistakenly discarded items in the trash and the front desk night manager helped with getting full tax exemption on government credit card. Very nice and clean. Very friendly and helpful staff. Very accommodating! Room service management staff helped me find mistakenly discarded items in the trash and the front desk night manager helped with getting charges worked out that were not their fault as they were more an issue with how my company bills things. I had a balcony that could have been a bit cleaner on the railing and the floor but it is understandable that it can't be spotless. The plug outlet for power to the TV was not working so I had to plug it into another plug that was more visible. The refrigerator was also not working because it was also plugged into the same outlet so I plugged it into the closest visible outlet as well. The refrigerator didn't get cold enough. It would have been nice if there was an ice box in the refrigerator. Mostly great. There was a mistake by the cleaning staff where they took a retail box that was placed by the sliding glass window and they threw it out. It was a needed box for electronic equipment that I needed for shipping. The box was open and it did have items that appeared to be garbage but I was using it as a place to hold things until I got back. I thought I had the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door but when I got back it was on the inside. I believe it may have fallen off in my rush to get out the door and housekeeping just assumed it was not intended to be on the outside. I immediately talked to the room service employee that was there in the hall and she did so much to help me. She then contacted her manager and they took me to the dumpster to try to find everything of mine. I got the box back and some other important items. It was frustrating but in the end it worked out. To remedy this in the future, I recommend that housekeeping be instructed to not throw anything away until check out unless in the trash or over the trash or directly adjacent to the trash. In my case it would have been more useful for housekeeping to inspect the box and if there was any question at all then it should be left. Since the box was retail and had large graphics and pictures on the box it should have been assumed that it may not be trash. The box wasn't broken down and was assembled in carry form so again it should have been assumed that it...
