Minnesota is Super Delicious! ~ The Sonder Shaker

I recently visited Celio, the new restaurant that took over the space formerly operated by Shonder Shaker. The ambiance was pleasant, and the presentation of the drinks and food looked promising. However, the experience left a lot to be desired. While the dishes were decent in flavor, the portions were surprisingly small for the prices charged. We ordered several pastas and an appetizer, and every plate felt more like a tasting menu portion than a full entrée. The biggest issue was the misleading happy hour promotion. The menu listed “$2 house white/red wine,” which led me and my partner to believe wine was $2 each during happy hour. We ordered accordingly, only to be told by the server that it actually meant $2 off, not $2 per glass. Nowhere on the menu did it clarify this, and the way it’s written is undeniably misleading. We ended up being charged $9 per glass, which was frustrating given the expectation set. Service was courteous but not particularly attentive, especially when it came to clarifying questions or addressing our concerns about the happy hour pricing. In short, Celio has potential, but needs to be much clearer about their menu and portion expectations if they want to win over return customers. Right now, it feels overpriced and not fully transparent.

Lovely place on Hennepin Ave, just slightly north of the bridge. Simple but intentionally decorated. Great service. Quickly came over, checked in and food came out quickly. Small menu but the food is unique and the flavors are there, not incredible but satisfying and interesting, which I appreciated. Drinks were strong and if that is something you indulge in, you would really like. They keep a water jug at the table. We started at 5:00pm weekday, so during happy hour and ordered the Bougie Fries and Kale Salad (shared both) and they were great. If you don't like beets, you may not enjoy this salad but it was a great blend of flavored. We also ordered drinks, The Sangria and were both interesting. Great deals during happy hour. My friend also tried the Grape Ape and Sonder shots and enjoyed them. Parking is on the street and can sometimes be tricky to find, so plan ahead if you have reservations. Street parking is paid parking.

The night started off great here - the cocktails and service at the bar was great.

When we sat down to eat it became a different story, the waiter took our orders appetisers & entree’s and left. We let him know that one of our friends has an externally serious fish allergy which he wrote down.

He forgot our appetisers altogether and never apologised. We ended up cancelling them and he had a blank look on his face as if he didn’t even know we had ordered them.

Our friends meal came out (the one with the allergy) and it was only a small plate so she ate through it quite quickly to shortly after notice that her face had broken out in red blotches and her throat started to close up.

We called the waiter over who said looked terrified “sorry there must have been cross contamination” and directed us to the nearest CVS.

When the bill came that hadn’t even offered to remove the meal that they cross contaminated and caused her to have an allergic reaction in stead the waitress or manager came over and said “well you ate it so I didn’t take it off but you can have a drink on me”

Honestly shocked that the manager thought that was an acceptable response or reaction to someone having a serious allergic reaction to something that was completely their fault and we had notified them about!

I’m not writing this review to slate the restaurant because myself and everyone else really enjoyed our meals but it should be noted how careless they were when it came to cross contamination of food and that they did not take an allergy seriously. On top of that their unbothered response that they could have put someone in hospital was even more shocking.

If you go here please be cautious of this if you...

I definitely consider myself a food connoisseur and oh my gosh, I just found my new favorite restaurant in Minnesota! I went on my birthday with about 20 people a couple weeks ago and we tried almost everything on the menu and I had some of the best tasting food that I can remember. Their appetizers are absolutely amazing, the brussel sprouts are simply to die for, the fried cauliflower is phenomenal, there white asparagus is delicious, and the mussels were out of this world. Literally the best brussel sprouts I've ever had and are almost like candy with their maple glaze infused and tasty pork belly incorporated and the mussels might have been the best tasting mussels I've ever ate and the broth they were served in was absolutely amazing and I even have family on the east coast. Lastly, their wagyu burger is definitely one of the tastiest and most flavorful burger I've ever ate. Also they have a very unique and eclectic drink menu. The staff and service was also superb. After going there for my birthday a couple weeks ago, I've already been back 3 times. Love this place and I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone that loves food like me! Thanks Sonder Shaker for becoming my new...
