I've been here twice now (different times if the day), and it's alway extremely crowded. That in itself isn't horrible except that they hardly ever resurface the ice and there is over an inch of crushed ice in top so basically you are skating through snow, not ice. And they don't enforce rules here. People stop on the ice (not in the very sides or very middle, but right in the thick of the traffic) and stand there for 10+ minutes taking selfies and chatting, blocking the traffic. Then people were using those trainers (metal bars that you hold into so you don't fall down) as sleds, pushing each other around the ice, bumping into people and going the wrong direction. When we went to the employees to complain that basically said they weren't going to do anything about it. The rules posted clearly states to not bring food into the ice, yet kids were bringing fruit-roll-ups onto the ice, left their wrappers on the ice and were flinging them at each other while skating. With it being so expensive and crowded (and apparently over charging credit cards... Still have to check my statement to see if they did that to mine) I think there are other places we will go next time. Love the historic building and atmosphere of the place in general, but if they aren't going to enforce rules and order, and if they aren't going to at least resurface the ice before it turns into snow, and over charge you in credit cards, the atmosphere just isn't...

Pros: I like to skate, the rentals I got were decent, the music selection was fun.
Cons: They need to resurface the ice way more often. There was about a half inch of crushed ice covering the entire rink before skating just got too hard and we decided to leave. The music could get painfully loud at times. There were a lot of people skating dangerously fast right next to kids who had a tendency to stop randomly to hang on to the sides. There was blood on the ice and I'm guessing it came either from a collision or from someone falling over the overly pitted skate surface.
MOST IMPORTANT:
All of the receipts leave a line for a tip. Which is silly because it's not like they served me or anything... I just paid them for access to their rink. I lined through the tip line and wrote in the total amount like I usually do and sure enough it still shows up on my card as adding $4 that I didn't authorize. I kept the receipt so I know I'm not just remembering wrong.
Also, I got a couple snacks while I was there - not anything I thought made sense to add a tip for. The cashier there didn't offer me my copy of the receipt so I took a picture of it after I signed. Sure enough, that shows up with an extra $2 on my statement.
So even though $6 doesn't matter to me in the slightest... the fact that someone stole it from me makes me mad and I seriously question their...
Read moreReally cool venue for events and parties! Although I didn't attend an event at the The Depot, it looks like a fantastic, fun place to have an event. I was a guest staying in the Marriott Renaissance Hotel, adjacent to the event area. On the day of my visit there was not an event or party in progress. The main event area was not open, but I did explore the common areas and look in through the windows and it looked really nice. The event hall is actually the historic train depot building in downtown Minneapolis. The "Depot" event center and the surrounding area and facilities are immaculate and well maintained. The facility, including the adjacent hotel all have a magnificent architecture and design that reflect the historic neighborhood and surrounding area. The event center itself appears to be a perfect location for weddings, parties, receptions, conventions and meetings. The Marriott Renaissance Hotel adjacent is modern and beautiful. The hotel is perfect for out of town guests who will be attending an event at The Depot. The Depot Event Center is a beautiful, historic facility offering a unique...
