I have wanted to try these dumplings for a long time, but the logistics never worked out. So I am super glad they now have their own space!
We had the pork and veg dumplings, the OG Dumpling Sauce & Ginger Scallion Sauce. Everything was delish! I thought the OG sauce was going to be spicy but it wasn't, which was great for me. All the sides were SO good! I do not like sweet pickles, and these pickles were a bit sweet but yum, I really liked them. The star of the show was actually the celery, YES the celery! I've never disliked celery, but it is pretty boring; not this celery it is EXCELLENT. They could easily sell the sides to take home, but then it's probably more fun to eat them here.
We will have to figure out how to play it here because if you just get dumplings it doesn't really feel like a meal. We went back to the counter and added two sides of rice and although we mixed some of our sides in, the rice needed more; we probably should have thrown some of the great sauce on it in retrospect but were saving that for the dumplings. It would be nice if they had dispensers with sauce so you could get more than a small portion. I think next time we could get an order of dumplings and then either a rice bowl or burrito and share it all (like we did the dumplings today).
We like the ordering set up - screens you place your order on up front and then folks bring out your food. We enjoy going at our own pace and not being 'waited on'. Everyone we did interact with was very nice and smiling.
The interior is nice and upbeat. We wish it was just a bit more cozy for lingering and felt a bit less 'fast', but that is a minor personal thing. I'd put the experience on-par with Baba's if you are a fan. We do wish there were 'for here' bowls, etc. instead of things you throw away (as seems to be the trend since the big P).
We stopped by on what was apparently the grand opening morning (Saturday) just before 11:30 am and snagged one of the last tables; shortly after the whole place turned over ~ so don't let the crowds deter you for too long. It was in the low digits today, so glad they have that curved wall to block the door and seating in the window where we could sunbathe while eating; we were nice and warm.
For sure we...
Read moreSaturday Dumpling Co. is an excellent fast casual restaurant in northeast serving up some delicious eats! The service was quick and friendly, the dumplings were awesome, and the atmosphere (and overall branding) were great.
My partner and I visited on a late Saturday afternoon—we grabbed the only remaining table but the turnover was super quick so more tables opened up shortly after. When you enter the restaurant, you order at a kiosk at the front counter where you can also grab a table number. Since this aspect is self service, the interaction with the staff is minimal, but those we did speak to were very nice and helpful. There is also a self-service water station and you bus your own table once you are finished so overall it's pretty fast. Furthermore, our food was brought to our table within about five minutes, so this is definitely a good stop if you're looking for a quick bite.
Speaking of bites, the food here is awesome! We tried two of their signature dumplings: 1) the pork & cabbage dumplings with the OG dumpling sauce, and 2) the chicken & mushroom dumplings with garlic chili aioli. Both of these were great dumplings but my favorite was definitely the chicken & mushroom (plus the garlic chili aioli paired with it perfectly!). I also thought the slaw & pickles that came with each order of dumplings worked well and really complemented the flavors. Along with the dumplings, we also tried the red braised pulled pork scallion burrito which was tasty too. The textures inside the burrito were great and the pulled pork was so tender.
On top of the food and service, the atmosphere was also fun and pleasant to be in. I love the pink decor and graphics they have, and their merch was really cute too.
Overall, Saturday Dumpling Co. is a great spot for a quick bite in northeast, and I highly recommend...
Read moreCame to Saturday Dumpling Co early on Father’s Day to pick up their special of the week - the Unicorn BBQ collab - a brisket breakfast burrito. I ordered online ahead of time for pickup (which was a breeze) and was pleasantly surprised to receive a text about 10 minutes before my scheduled pickup time to let me know my order was ready! I also just generally loved the option to order specials ahead because I was slightly worried they’d sell out and I’d miss out (cue FOMO).
OMG THIS BURRITO. Best thing I’ve eaten in the Twin Cities bar none. The burrito special was filled with eggs, gooey cheese, tater tots, BRISKET (a taste of my Texas home), and a spicy chili mayo wrapped in their delicious scallion pancakes - what’s not to love? The burrito was GIANT. I ate half for brunch, took part in the Twin Cities Artisan Home Tour, then ate the other half on the road. The burrito was just as good (if not better) after it had time to sit and marinate.
I even messaged the business on Instagram practically begging them to keep the brisket burrito as a full-time menu item. But, I’ve eaten here a number of times before and always enjoy anything I’ve ordered. Their Hmong Sausage dumplings (another special, RIP) were out of this world, and I LOVE their crispy chicken burritos. Basically the worst thing about Saturday Dumpling Co is that they always churn out the best specials and then I’m always sad to see them leave. Looking forward to whatever you come up with next....
