Everything we had was SO good, and it was piping hot! When we got there the line was out the door, but we did get there right at dinner time.
We were set down quickly thankfully we did not have to wait very long before being seated. At the very most we probably waited about five minutes.
After being seated they brought us our drinks and took our order quickly, the food also did not take long to arrive after placing our order. I would say maybe 15 to 20 minutes. It was fast considering how busy they were.
The food was amazing! Honestly I would highly recommend going here and trying anything, this was our first time there and like I mentioned before the food was piping hot. Sometimes you go to restaurants and the food comes out warm or warm hot but this was extremely hot which was nice I’m not complaining.
We ordered a wonton soup, sesame chicken, potstickers.
When we ordered the wonton soup I was thinking they were going to bring out a much bigger bowl but it was much smaller the I expected but it was very delicious!
The potstickers were so good, I’m sure they were home made since the breading on the potstickers was so soft and spongy they were very good.
The sesame chick had some spice to it and sweet too, it was soft but also had good crunch. Would highly recommend 10/10
My over all experience was outstanding, I’ll most definitely be coming back. Everything was great I have zero...
Read moreShuang Cheng has been my favorite Chinese restaurant in the Twin Cities since I moved here in 2009. While the restaurant encompasses most of China's regional cuisines, I gravitate toward their "hot pot" dishes. These dishes are served in a (you guessed it) hot little iron/tin pot all sizzling and bubbling when placed in front of you. Flavors of these dishes vary greatly. (From the salty tang of the chicken with salt fish hotpot to the sweet and mild "East River Special," my favorite seafood, chicken, pork, and vegetable hot pot!) If you're less adventurous, Shuang Cheng can provide your taste buds with the Americanized Chinese dishes of General Tso, beef and broccoli, and sweet and sour. I've had them all, and yes, they're perfectly delicious! I've yet to have enough people to order such a treat, but their jumbo crab looks absolutely delicious, as do their whole roasted fish. They've got some lobster, too, if that tickles your fancy -- all market price.
All in all, this place is great. Their egg rolls are to die for, and I've actually considered stealing their containers of homemade roasted peppers in oil. (I tried buying some outright. They denied me but gave me ample takeout cups of it.) Brave the college crowd and the cruddy parking to eat at this...
Read moreThis restaurant has many rough edges. In my mind, this is like a B movie. It's unsophisticated, but it glows on you and you become an unintended cult member.
The dinkytown is dinky no more with new buildings in every direction you look, but once you step into this restaurant, it's like traveling back in time. I had dined here when I was a fresh college student 30 years ago. It was cafeteria-like and the food was good but not something you write home about. As students, this was the place for affordable and decent Chinese food to enjoy with friends.
Today the place still looks the same. There's the light box on the wall with the same poor handwritings and prices that were obviously overwritten many times. It's like the place is frozen in time. The only thing that changed are the people and of course the prices.
Back to the food. It's Chinese American food on steroids. The dishes are good but overly drowned in sauce. They are perfectly acceptable, just don't compare them to real Chinese restaurants, with one exception. My absolutely favorite dish here is the ginger lobster with noodles. The freshness of the lobster and noodles soaked in the umami of the ginger and lobster made this dish out of this world! They absolutely...
