Notice that most of the reviews are from people that have taken tours, not those that have actually lived here. I’m not sure if there’s some sort of incentive for leaving a review at the end of your tour, because it seems unnatural for people to feel compelled to leave an apartment review after a tour.
Anyway, I digress. I’m leaving this review based on my stepson’s experiences. UNCOMMON Dinkytown is a poorly maintained building without many of the same perks of comparable apartments. For example, on our tour, the tour guide told us there was free printing on the premises—there is not, as you have to pay something like 50 cents a page to print using their poorly maintained printer. Not sure how other apartments are nowadays but when my daughter was going to the U from 2016 to 2020 all apartments in this price range offered actual free printing.
There were many broken things in my stepson’s apartment that never got fixed, including the smoke detector. Maybe not a big concern for teens and young 20-somethings but parents beware.
They say they offer free breakfast and snacks but those don’t get put out until most students have left for classes for the day, and they get put away before kids start returning from classes.
Piles of vomit would sit in the hallways for weeks before ever getting cleaned up. My stepson said he noticed one pile sit there for two months. I will add photos to this review later if I can get them from him.
He got severely overcharged on electricity with no explanation. He and his roommates were all great at conserving energy and were a group of friends who had lived together the prior year as well with none of the outrageous charges.
I realize that the location is somewhat conducive to a “party” environment but the apartment was horrible about maintaining quiet hours as promised. 1AM on a weekday and people would be drinking, blasting loud music, and yelling from the hot tub. Noise complaints didn’t do anything.
Also the gym never had wipes available, which is just horrific. They have canisters for wipes, so you might be misled into thinking sanitation is a priority on the tours, but I assure you it is not. Of course no college kid is bringing their own wipes to the gyms so the equipment never got wiped down. My stepson dealt with a series of styes while living here—would not be surprised if gym was the culprit.
Also loads of fun as a parent to see that every crime alert near campus is a block away from their child’s apartment… especially when they know the apartment clearly has poor security from aforementioned trouble maintaining basic quiet hours.
Please take some time to seek out reviews from those who have actually lived here or know someone who has. These reviews and ratings are not an accurate representation of the average...
Read moreI was not compensated or incentivized in any way for this review. It is a description of MY experience living in this complex for a 12 month period & details what I would have wanted to know ahead of move-in.
The Building: The location is excellent. Quality of materials and craftsmanship are acceptable for how fast the complex was constructed. Thin walls, even thinner doors, and echoey hallways are all to be expected, and the Uncommon is no different. If your unit borders the courtyard, you will hear every conversation if windows are open.
Amenities: Most were open the entire time of my residence. The fitness/yoga rooms were nice & had ample space and equipment. The upper deck has a great view but not great seating for getting work done. Indoor common spaces have a much better design & were frequently occupied, including the small study rooms. The hot tub had issues (and is closed during the winter, just a heads up) and was frequently blasted with chemicals to an extent that it ruined my swim shorts (see photo). Not very happy about that, so just a heads up.
Rooms: The rooms had ample space, both the main areas and bedrooms. We had a furnished island & stools that worked great, though they were pretty low quality and I don't expect them to last long. The coffee table was junk. The fridge was large enough for four people, the sink had a disposal (major perk), and the other appliances had no issues. Ample storage could be found all over the unit.
Staff: The office and maintenance staff were great! There was an employee turnover during my stay, but I had no issues with the new team. I was issued a $500 voucher as part of my lease agreement, and received it within three months of moving in. All in all, they were helpful...
Read moreUncommon is a true gem in the heart of Dinkytown! From the moment you step foot in the lobby, it's clear that the building has been well maintained, with every detail thoughtfully considered. Even down to the smell of the building, they thought of everything.
The apartments themselves are spacious, with plenty of natural light flooding in from large windows. Each unit has been thoughtfully designed with modern finishes and amenities, making it the perfect place to call home. The kitchens are sleek and stylish, with high-end appliances and ample counter space for cooking and entertaining. The bedrooms are cozy and comfortable, providing a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life. (And they each have a window!!)
The building also boasts a range of impressive amenities. The fitness center is open 24/7 and has plenty of space for workouts. The rooftop sky deck is the perfect spot to relax and take in stunning views of the city skyline. And for those who need to get work done, there are ample study rooms and spaces for you to go!
The management and staff at the building are also a highlight, always going above and beyond to ensure residents are comfortable and satisfied. Any maintenance issues are addressed promptly, and the building is always kept clean and tidy. Thank you Isabelle for the tour and help with signing my lease!
Overall, I would highly recommend Uncommon to anyone looking for a luxurious and convenient living experience in the heart of Dinkytown...
