Since the late 1980’s, I have enjoyed visiting the Whales Tail on average twice a year. I have taken friends and family from across this country to what has been my favorite spots for the past 30 years to let them experience what ‘The Best Of Destin” has to offer. Unfortunately, for the past two years, it has broken my heart to see how far this grand sport on the sand has sunk. It now is a shell of itself; a mismatched shack of unsightlyness. There are unpainted walls, rotten wooden and sand covered walkways and steps, closed bathrooms, no showers, tables without umbrellas welcoming you on the hottest day of summer, horrible service by the bartenders and staff, cold food with less than fresh produce, and poorly cooked seafood. On what I once considered the nicest beach spot in the country, the WT has now reduced itself to nothing but a rundown shack of high priced drinks for sucker tourist. The servers could care less you have been a patron there year after year. It is painfully sad, considering some of the staff has been there several years and knows better. Upon my leaving on the first day this year, I spoke with the manager. This is something uncharacteristic of me, but I felt I needed to do in hopes that saying something would could help. The next day, nothing had changed. Trash was still everywhere, umbrellas were still down, sidewalks were still not swept, and the showers and restrooms were still out of order. Furthermore, it was sad that the bartender knowingly gave me back the wrong change and argued with me when I tried to correct her. Read moreSeated quickly and had an amazing ocean view. Why 1 star? After we were seated the wait staff walked by us for over 20 minutes and either ignoring us or giving us a nasty side eye. We're just a family of 4 who sat there quietly looking over our menu and engaged in light conversation. Finally asked someone if they could send our server over. During this time, at least four parties were seated and had their orders taken and we still didn't even have a server stop by. The service after that was OK at best but they could care less we were ignored for so long and the server had seen us sitting there the entire time, walked by and ignored us, and served other tables. Food was good but to spend $160+ for 4 on dinner and be treated so rudely, not worth it at all. Food wasn't $160 worth to start with so couple that by the awful service, absolute waste of time and money going here. I spent many years working in restaurants and would have apologized and know the manager would have come by and apologized as well however here, they simply didn't want to be bothered. They preferred to hang out by the hostess stand and joke around and talk vs care for their customers. It wasn't busy but did have a slow stream of customers coming. No excuse for how this went down and highly disappointed. Will never return here. Being on the ocean is it's only...
