This place is a little gem in downtown Mishawaka. It stands apart from the other offerings in the area although it fits perfectly in the old storefronts of downtown. There is no need for this place to be anything but what it is, the food does all the work. The simplified aesthetic, bright, clean, classic. The order at the counter and seat yourself service. The blackboard notifying customers what has already sold out. The bench seat running down one side of the small but well spaced dining area. The galvanized platters that the most meals are plated on. Nothing more than the goodness of pure and unadulterated of Smoked Meat BBQ. Everything was delicious, the portions generous. The prices fair. The homemade cucumber pickles, the sides like Mac n cheese and fries and cornbread; perfectly down home yummy. The sauces to die for. The entire meal was obviously crafted by someone who loves what they do. Someone who has mastered the art of bbq. The sauces were surprising. My vinegar based sauce which was clear and I sticky, had a tang and bite that made the perfectly smoked pulled pork taste like like it was born in the exotic parts of the south. The horseradish white sauce that my guest had was also unique and complimented the brisket like a pair singing harmony. As long as you are not a vegetarian or vegan you will not be sorry you checked out the Prized Pig.

My family and I have wanted to try this restaurant for a long while, but Covid delayed our experience. The experience wasn’t necessarily disappointing, but it definitely didn’t live up to our expectations either. We called in a carry-out, so we didn’t get the dine-in experience, but the lady working the counter was very friendly and professional. The food was “ok” at best. I usually smoke my own ribs and I was craving for some on that day, but I didn’t have time to make my own. I thought this was the perfect day to finally give them a try. I ordered the half slab St Louis spare rib platter. It came with 4 ribs. (Half a slab should’ve came out to at least 5-6 ribs.) I never have to use any kind of sauce on my ribs as I coat them heavily with a dry rub and use mesquite chunks for flavor. Though these ribs were internally done and the meat fell off the bone, they had no flavor whatsoever and I was forced to cover them in sauce. This is/was my only visit to this restaurant, so maybe this experience was the exception and not the rule. Maybe their food is much better. Maybe we went there on an “off-day”. I’d still recommend trying them out for yourself and then see what you decide.

Didn't expect to like this place. Do yourself a favor and visit. It was really good. The cheesecake is amazing. Homemade, not frozen. You can tell. It was the only thing I could take a picture of because we'd already scarfed down the rest. You can choose your sauce. The portions are huge. The prices are fair. The atmosphere is not in your face, but has its own charm. (Farmhouse chic meets whimsical pig) Music was on point and a very surprising. Apparently they rotate, so don't expect just standard pop-country. (Spacehog playing was a little on the snout and I'm still laughing about it.) Staff was fabulous. Attentive, but not fake. 100% love authentic people who aren't pressured to be corporate perfect. I'm writing this review at the restaurant. That should say everything.

TRIED to order delivery from here. Called PP to get instructions on ordering delivery. It's very strange set up. Hung up and, as instructed, ordered from Website received confirmation email. Transaction approved byy my bank. An HOUR later I call PP to see if the order had been picked up for delivery only to find out they had never received order. It seems they use a third party for ordering and then it runs thru door dash. Because they, PP, was busy, they turned off the ordering! 🤷‍♂️To the customer it appears that the food was ordered and would be delivered. When I complained, they told me if I had issues with charge to contact Door dash. Not sure why as it wasn't DD problem. PP turned off their ordering system unbeknownst to customers. This was all very convoluted, in my opinion. The one thing I NEVER heard was an apology. In fact, I will not patronize Prized Pig. I suspect that since they are "so busy", my comments and my review are irrelevant. I found the entire experience left a bad taste. Not good for a restaurant.

Update & reply to restaurant comment: I had to call to get my refund. It was NOT a Door Dash issue. Money was, in fact, taken from my account by PP. Taken out immediately for an order not filled. Now I have to wait 5-7 days for refund of money. What bothers me most is the number of false statements made by personnel and reported here by Prized Pig. A restaurant is more than just the food. Bad business...

OMG OMG OMG! The meat and sides are FIRE! My heart became filled with joy after l learned a new barbecue joint was headed to the area. For so long we relied on the lone spot in South Bend, which I stopped visiting due to overcooked meat AND poor service. There're been a smattering of spots that either should be ashamed to put their hat in the ring or they know if people are desperate enough, they'll accept whatever quality just to seem like they're enjoying their craving. I mean, there's a listed on Lincolnway East as a rib spot but I've never smelled any barbecue scent around, inside or near the building itself which screams "False grilling" as they're parboiling or pargrilling prior to showing up for business. Well, I van tell you The Prized Pig lives up to the hype, the press, they are ALL that you could want in a rib joint and so very much more. For example, their SIDE offerings are to DIE for! Homemade mac 'n cheese all gooey cause they use REAL cheese oh oh! Those baked beans...I am just nearly speechless cause these are from a tried and true cook's recipe book. These aren't the standard offering! The portions in both the sides and one of their dishes, The Squealer, both was amazing in presentation and my mouth is still expectant for the next time we'll have it. Which will be later today...yay! Don't wait till everyone in town's visited to try this barbecue eatery,...
