Kona Loa Coffee Crown Valley — Restaurant in Mission Viejo

I used to come here religiously and know the owners whom are so kind so I hate to be writing this review. I came in today and saw the pistachio latte and asked if they make the syrup in house. The girl stated no but it’s really good. Based on her recommendation I ordered it. The syrup tasted nothing like pistachio and it wasn’t drinkable. I went back and kindly requested that I get my normal go to latte. They refused and said I would have to pay for a whole new latte. This was extremely disappointing since I know If the owner was there herself that was not how she would have handled the situation. I have been coming here since they opened and loved supporting them but this is just not the customer service I was expecting. I have never been in a coffee shop that would refuse drink alteration/ adjustment. This is a first. This cafe is a gem! The drinks are unique, the atmosphere is cozy, and the service is quick and friendly. We tried a few of their March matcha specials: the jasmine tea with matcha cold foam and the double matcha. We also got the brown sugar latte, ube latte, and island coffee. Everything was delicious but my favorites were the jasmine matcha and island coffee. The floral notes of the jasmine tea blend beautifully with the rich matcha foam creating a unique and memorable flavor. The island coffee is their most popular drink and is also worth trying. I’m so sad that I don’t live closer; I was on my way back home to San Diego when I just needed some caffeine so I stopped into Kona Loa randomly and ordered their matcha with coconut milk and sweetened with only honey. Firstly, it’s not the low quality/ fake super sweet matcha, their matcha was the real deal and such good quality- you can see how vibrant it is in the photo!! Secondly, oh my it was amazing- I was so surprised by how flavorful this simple drink was. Their staff was incredibly sweet too, the lady who took my order was so patient and answered all of my questions very kindly. I may need to make this a pitstop for everytime I travel north!...
