I really enjoyed this place. LUV'd the 9#Hammer. The salmon .... perfecto!!! The building history, it's restoration, how they went about it, how they documented it .... THE ARTWORK THROUGHOUT THE PLACE, supporting local artists. Good gosh!!!! AAAAAAAAAND LET’S NOT FORGET ROBERT!!! R.O.B.E R.T. Seriously, everything that I listed above was because of Robert taking the time to help me make a porter or stout choice, an entreè choice. NOW let's talk about the artwork and building history. It was certainly slow when I came in, so it was easy for him to notice my draw on the artwork, then tell me about their monthly artist rotation. Then walk me into the next room. Tell me enough to get me to immerse myself into the history with phone camera in hand. ABSOLUTELY LUV'D IT. Thank you, Robert. THAT had us come back for the Super Bowl and another 9# hammer ; ) I'm in town 2-3 times per year. Cranky Sam's is now my go-to. My only "room for improvement" would be in the category: more options for non-meat eaters. I don't eat land animals, so I'm always looking for menus that have alternative protein options. Perhaps a black bean burger? Hummus and/or edamame appetizers?? And half-order option on appetizers?? Daily soup in the cold months?

After a long day a lot the local swim meet it was time for a nice cold beer. Decided to give Cranky Sam Public House a try. Ordered the Tropical Blonde summer ale has a little hoppy finish, but for someone that doesn't care for hoppy, this was just fine. Next up was the Hot Spring Hefeweizen.to me,.slight note of cloves. Different, but pleasant. Lastly, the El Vaquero, their Mexican beer. I can say I have not had many craft Mexican beers, since not too many breweries can masters that craft,, but this ranks toward the top three. Super smooth with or without lime. Almost wish is it was about 5 degrees colder and , to me, would be absolutely perfect. Best beer of the three tried this evening. If I am back in Missoula, I will definitely be back and as I have said in other posts, Support Local!

Stopped in for their Tuesday bingo night and was pleasantly surprised to see that they’re serving food now. Unfortunately I had just eaten so I didn’t have room to try any food. I like to try a different cider each time that I come in and the strawberry lemonade cider was a lotta bang for the buck! 19.2 oz can for $8. Not a bad deal! The owner came over and introduced himself since my boyfriend was inadvertently overcharged the last time we were there. He was very nice and made sure our bill was compensated appropriately. We’ll be back for another bingo night!

I'm gonna start off by saying I don't leave bad reviews hardly ever because as the owner of a small locally owned business, I know how detrimental it can be. With that said, it's also important that the owners get some feedback when the service and the food are not good. Got there a little before 7:00 for trivia, place was full, we expected that. We were told we can't have four people at a six people at a four top, and no one with a larger table that wasn't full was willing to trade with us, so that's on us. We were told we can leave or go outside and eat, so that's we went outside. Although that was mildly annoying, that's not my complaint as that was our fault; we should've gotten there earlier and grabbed a bigger table. If the business doesn't want it overcrowded inside for an event, I get it and that's fine. So first off, when we went to order, we were told that we had to put a credit card on file in order to order food, and then they would split it up later, so basically pay first like McDonald's or Wendy's. Food came and it wasn't very good. Two of us ordered the braised beef sandwich and both sandwiches were different from one another (one was half the size of the other one and didn't have any of the ingredients on it like the other one did such the pickled radishes or whatever it was supposed to come with), I ordered the same drink twice and got a completely different version of it each time. French fries were absolutely cold and not appealing which is ridiculous considering it was busy inside so you would think there would be some fresh food coming out of the kitchen. Had to ask for silverware and only one set was brought out, so no one else got napkins, or the ketchup or ranch that we ordered. One of the entrées came out quite literally 20 minutes after all the rest of us were served and were almost all done with our food. Then a different server showed up about 30 minutes after that to take our plates away and split up the final bill. We were literally still waiting for some ketchup and ranch for our cold fries, and some silverware and napkins. No idea why our new server came to help us, our other server was still there on shift serving others. Trivia was still going on at that point but half the tables were empty by that time. Long story short, really poor service, mediocre food & drinks that...

Sadly this place had a lot of issues for us. We had heard good things and went to sit on the patio which was beautiful. Our waitress was friendly enough to start, but when we ordered the $17 queso, it was placed in front of us with a comical amount of sauce with about 10 tortilla chips, I kid you not. We both had about 5-6 chips each and they were out, with tons of our expensive sauce remaining. Seeing other pictures of the dish this seemed not normal, what happened? We were t sure if it was intentional so just ate the couple of chips and stared at our soup bowl of cheese. We ordered beer and it was brought in a can like a backyard bbq. Our waitress got less friendly through the course of the evening we got eye rolls and deep sighs when we asked for glasses (they were wet and warm like they were pulled from the dish pit) and a box for our excessive cheese when we ran out of chips. I ordered the salmon which had great flavor, but it was served on a fossilized puck of rice. When I would go to cut through, the rice would shatter off the plate. The veggies were also hard to Cut through making each bite a struggle- maybe it’s the way it’s meant to be served? . A beautiful dish but definitely not something I would recommend. My friend ordered the tacos, also beautiful, but said they were extremely bland and had to ask for guacamole and it still lacked. Maybe this experience was a singular miss, but after spending $40/person AND being prompted to leave a minimum 20% tip, I would never come back here, none of it was worth the money, including the...

Was actually in tears by the end of my time at Cranky Sam. When we walked in I was very excited, Blue Grass was being performed on the patio and my son told me that it is a pro-lgbtq+ establishment. We got seated within 5 minutes...and then it went downhill. After we ordered, we went nearly 90 minutes until the server apologized and said she hoped the food would be out soon. I told my family that I believed our meal had been forgotten and was just being put in. 30 minutes later, we got some of our meal, had to ask for one of daughters meals again. And then, I still didn't get my nachos. A third server came to our table and said obviously my nachos had been missed, and just stood there. After I explained we were in town for the marathon and didn't have other food, he said something condescending about did I still want food. I said please just pack my nachos to go. He said they were out of chips. My eyes welled up and he at least offered to get me something else to go. My family didn't get to our hotel until 11pm and has to be up at 6am for the race. I am just bummed out tonight, but will be angry tomorrow when my 9 year old has a meltdown:(

I actually am not finding a way to respond to your comment, so I hope you see this. I am aware that 3 different people's on your team, including the manager, stated they would comp the meal... but as of today, 5 days later, the $97 meal charge is still on my husband account. So it...
