We visited La Cocina De TJ, a small family-style Mexican restaurant located in Sienna, on Sunday at 1 p.m. Right away, we could tell this was a popular spot, it was packed when we got there and we got the last empty table. After eating there, it’s easy to see why. The atmosphere was bright and welcoming, with the smell of good food filling the air and lively music playing in the background. The service was one of the best parts of the whole experience. The staff didn’t mind us filming for our project. The owner and staff were super friendly and checked on us and made sure we had everything we needed. Before we finished ordering, the staff brought us our chips and queso, so the service was amazing despite the number of people there and the staff cleaned up right after we finished. Their kindness and efficiency made a huge difference. We got an assortment of foods that were flavorful and authentic, we got a shared queso and chips (8/10) and churros for dessert (5/10) which were both pretty good, definitely homemade and freshly made. For our entree’s we got the 3 birria tacos (9/10), the torta (8/10), the street tacos (6/10), and the beef burrito (9/10). Our main observation was that meals with chicken were less flavorful and a little dry, while the ones with beef were super tender and flavorful. For less than $20 total for each person, we got a full, delicious meal that was worth every cent. We all left full and satisfied and would totally come again. The experience was a 9/10, definitely recommend.

I really wanted to love this place, especially with so many exciting new restaurants opening in the neighborhood. My husband and I ordered the XL Quesadilla, Street Tacos, and a side of beans, with a total bill of $35. While there were some positives, the experience fell short for me. The XL Quesadilla was massive, which is great if you're looking for a lot of food. The chicken was well-seasoned but not my preferred style—it was sautéed in small pieces rather than grilled fajita-style. The toppings were minimal: just a couple of tiny tomatoes, a bit of lettuce, and a sour cream drizzle. I would have loved guacamole, pico de gallo, and a dollop of sour cream, but we had to purchase sour cream as a side. The Street Tacos were also not my style. I prefer flour tortillas, but they only offered corn. The chicken and beef were both chopped finely, with the beef almost resembling ground beef. While the flavors were decent, the dishes overall felt underwhelming. Standard toppings of cilantro and red onions were good. It would have been nice if they offered combo plates with rice and beans, but that wasn’t an option. We tried their salsa, but both the red and green were extremely spicy with no mild option for those who don’t like heat. As a taco restaurant, I was surprised they didn’t have Taco Tuesday specials. Overall, the style of food isn’t my preference.

Wow let me tell you in one word: AMAZING! The whole concept is a vibe and I love the full coffee bar experience they got going on. I found this place by accident when googling “breakfast tacos” and I am so glad we stopped by. I knew I wanted to taste the chilaquiles right away and they didn’t disappoint! They offer red or green chilaquiles with crispy potatoes, refried beans, and eggs of your choice for $13, but I decided to add a meat for an extra $4. The chilaquile green sauce wasn’t spicy at all but everything was packed with so much flavor! We were given some salsas on the side and those were definitely spicy, so it’s great for people that want to gradually up the spice level. This meal was so filling, I would get them without the extra meat. I can’t wait to try more of their dishes in the future! As for the drink, I opted for the iced pumpkin spice coffee and at first, it was definitely too sweet for me, but later one of the workers came to check if everything was ok at our table so I asked if they could add some more milk, ice, or coffee to make it less sweet. She accommodated my request and when I tasted it again, it was perfect. Loved the service and food - definitely recommend!

I came on a breakfast adventure with my family because we love TJ Birria. We drove out from Sugar Land to Sienna - we were thrilled to try them. When we came in - it was a bit of a rush, when we ordered we were not waiting too long about 15 min for our food to get to our table. Our food was utterly cold. We ordered street tacos, Waygu Sampler, chicken and waffles and 3 breakfast tacos. The street tacos - the meat was As if it was stored in the refrigerator - I was shocked maybe they mistook a prepared bag of steak and served it by accident. So I asked the guy who delivered our food if it was meant to be cold? I was not trying to make a big deal but again, I’m still shocked how cold it was. It didn’t make sense because we were not waiting long enough for food to be that cold. Anyway - once giving it back we waited about 5 min. Other food was being delivered the chicken and waffles were room temperature, the chilaquiles and street tacos got to us and it appeared to be that they were not touched. Waygu was cold - I believe in my opinion it was prepared before ordering.

It was so sad and disappointing. We ate our food because we were hungry and we had children with us. They did not come back to check in with us at all. They did stare at us from the register not sure if it was coincidence or not. Not sure if we can come back. TJ needs to check in on this restaurant and make adjustments for better service and...
