Gene's Grinders — Restaurant in Monrovia

So simple yet so delicious :)

I have eyed this place for 20+ years but never bothered to stop by and give it a try. Today I was meeting a buddy for lunch and I suggested something fresh and cold (it's a hott day) he immediately replayed with Grinders. So here it was... finally my chance to give this place a try. I walked up to the window, took a look at the menu and immediately placed my order. I'm very basic lol so I got the Salami Sandwich and a drink. The sandwiches either come in a large or small and both are at a reasonable price. Minutes after I ordered my number was called and I finally got to sit and enjoy a nice fresh sandwich. My sandwich was so fresh and very tasteful, I got the small and it was just a perfect size for one.

The girls working the front were extremely friendly and very helpful. I asked a few questions and felt a bit silly for asking because the answers were pretty much on the menu in front of my eyes but they didn't seem to mind. As I sat and enjoyed my meal and the the perfect weather outside I overheard a lady being a bit loud and complaining. As I payed more attention her complaints were nonsense and I kinda felt bad that the staff had to deal with her shenanigans but they were very professional and handled that situation well. I even had to let the staff know they did great after that customer left and make light of the situation. Good Job Team!

Visited it for the free grinder, only to find out it was only valid for yesterday. When I did try to place the order for yesterday, it wouldn't go through. Since I was already here, as it would've been a waste of a drive to visit all the way for nothing.

I decided to go with the build my own sub and got the combo. The sub was great, and it's best to eat right away and not after a few hours. The bread does get soggy. The fries were piping hot, and you either get your choice of fries or chips on the side to go along with the drink.

Probably one of the best grinders out in LA, and it lives to its billing. Unfortunately, I don't live that way. My only gripe is they're only open from 10am-4pm. So it's a spot to come for lunch and early dinner. If only they had extended hours. And there are a few benches in front of the business, if you choose to...

I saw an ad on Instagram that showed great reviews of this place and definitely wanted to try! I was just thinking of grabbing a sandwich when this place popped up on my feed, with a great discount as well! The prices are definitely great as well as the portions. My sister grabbed the meatball grinder and I got the Pastrami grinder. We also ended up grabbing some sandwiches for my brother and his girlfriend. I totally didn't expect the size to be that big! For the price, I thought it would be pretty small. But boy did they pack a punch! Great flavor and well balanced with the veggies. None of it slipped out and the bread held together nicely.

Also a great shout out to the owner! He's so kind and asked us about what we thought of the food. I can tell he cares about his business a lot! I will definitely be coming...
