I researched restaurants near Montgomery Mall to meet up with a friend for lunch and the menu looked fantastic. I walked in at 1230, today, Saturday, February 24th. They were doing a brisk business; a good sign! I had my 14 pound Service Dog on an 18 to 24 inch lead. The Hostess looked at him so I told her he is a service dog. She advised me she needed to see his papers. Per the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) it is illegal to ask for any proof, let alone a physical piece of paper. In an effort to ease her mind a bit and not throw the ADA non-compliance at her, I said in all my years with him I've never been asked for such a thing. She said she has always asked for papers and said again that I would need to provide the proof on paper. Now I am very well aware there are "cheaters" out there who take dogs places and say they are Support or Service dogs، but they aren't so I will always offer to show his proof...letter...on my phone to anyone who expresses concern, without mentioning the legal ramifications of such a requirement. I don't feel the need to embarrass someone at their workplace, especially as crowded as it was. I told her I could do just that and as I was looking it up, she commented that she is a dog person and that her dog had gone thru the same process. Then she asked me in a very different tone to pull him in even though she didn't have a view of him. At that point his lead was short enough that he couldn't reach, or see, around the end of the podium and he was pressed up against it. Maybe she thought he was underfoot, but that wasn't possible. When I looked down at him to see what was going on, she picked up my phone and was looking at the screen. I asked her what she was doing and she replied that she thought I had found it. At that point, I realized I was not only dealing with someone who is in Customer Service and not trained as to ADA compliance, but was also not very pleasant. There hadn't even been a modicum of friendliness in her tone or a smile to be had throughout our interaction. I said never mind and left. I returned home approximately 5:00 and called the manager to let them know that one of their employees had actually broken the law today. Training issue? Tony, the manager, said he would tell the owners and speak to the hostess. To be honest he seemed distracted. They are a popular restaurant so maybe they had a big dinner crowd and he was in the middle of all of that. In any case, there was no apology, but I'm hoping the information will be used to ensure that hostess never asks another person for their...
Read moreI called to reserve the back room for my parents 40th anniversary. When I spoke to someone, I believe I was told there was a minimum amount of people - but what I was NEVER told was that there was an extra $30 PER PERSON charge for each person below the 25 minimum. We ended up with 22 guests due to some last minute sicknesses. When everyone sat down and started ordering, Linda came in to take the orders. When I informed her there were 22 of us, she mentioned the $30 per person charge. I gave her a look but ultimately said OK because what were my other options? Was I supposed to tell the guests to just get up and leave, we were going elsewhere? Essentially, others found out about the charge and complained, rightfully so. It was breakfast, and I'm not sure anyone even came close to spending $30 per person. When asked if we could at least order something to go, we were told no. We were NEVER informed that we could move out to the dining room and we were NEVER informed we could open the doors to invite other people in. Who in their right mind would be okay throwing down an extra $90 in this economy - especially when nothing is received in return? To top it off, when my Mom called and spoke to one of the owners, she said she would refund the $90. However after a few days had passed, she went back on her word. She said she had spoken to Linda who informed her we were told we could move or open the doors. Again, this was a lie. She gave us a $50 gift card which let's be for real 🙄 I want my money back - not to have to give you more business when I use that gift card. So not only were they not forthright in mentioning the possible extra charge in the original phone call, they then lied about events that occured that day. We have frequented this place many times in the past - I truly feel it is unfortunate this occured because I will not ever go back again. And I hope this serves as a warning for people who may also want to reserve that room - just know you will be charged extra and get...
Read moreMy GF and I went for St Patrick's Day, which being on a Thursday wasn't that bad of a wait. We have been here several times and had both positive and negative experiences but overall enough to try again. The special menu looked good. First, it was around 6pm. We were told 30 minutes but it ended up being only 20. I don't remember the server's name but she informed us that the corned beef egg rolls were sold out. That was half the reason for the trip, and by 6:30 on the actual 'holiday', they're already out. OK. Things happen. I got the actual corned beef dinner and my GF got the beef stew. I also added a bowl of the stew to my dinner, but had to ask for it again as she forgot to bring it. The stew was the best part, although it desperately needed pepper and a little salt. The corned beef, surprisingly, was way under seasoned. I also don't think the presentation of slicing it very thin served it well. The veggies served with it were quite undercooked. What little cabbage there was was great, as was the mustard. All in all we had issues that I would expect late into service, not at the beginning. Additionally, the cheesecake pie we got to go was only OK. The sauce with it was very coffee aggressive and there wasn't enough sweetness to balance it out. Finally, at one point the server said she would bring me a refill of my iced tea. Which was great because I didn't have to ask. The problem is that she never brought it, but managed to charge me twice for a single drink. My GF and I were on the fence with our opinion; their sweet potato fries are awesome. But after this last time, it will likely push them into 'last resort' status. If you're thinking of heading here, just know it could be great, but it might also be highly...
