23 Court Cigar Bar — Restaurant in Montgomery

Was there with friends as the DD. I don't smoke so I was just planning to hang out but the bartender made it very clear that if I wasn't drinking or smoking that he didn't want me there. Really?? One dude in a group of 6 isn't drinking and you can't figure out what's going on there? He made it a very uncomfortable situation for us since we were planning to be there a few hours.

Response to owner: when the bartender pretty much says I need to buy something or leave, and that only paying customers are allowed upstairs, I'm not going to waste my time with further conversation. It's pretty obvious to most people that if one person in a large group isn't drinking that...

I had a frustrating experience here. When I asked to close out, the server tried to get me to sign my friend’s receipt. I explained that we were paying separately and that the bill he gave me wasn’t mine, but he argued that he had combined them, then acted inconvenienced when I refused to sign for someone else’s purchase.

After finally splitting the checks, I was still overcharged. The original combined bill was about $39, but when he separated mine, I was somehow charged over $20 even though I only had one drink, which I order regularly and have never paid that much for. Very nice downtown cigar bar on par with the better cigar bars in major cities. Great liquor and cigar selection; friendly, helpful bartender.

Update: It's been 11 months since my first visit and the bartender staff has changed since my last visit, but the great service and atmosphere is still top notch.

There was a live jazz band upstairs this visit. I remained downstairs. Personally, when I go to a cigar bar, I'm expecting great cocktails a good cigar and liquor selection, comfort, ventilation and a relaxed atmosphere...23 Court still checks...
