I can't believe I've lived in Oklahoma City all my life and have never eaten here. This is totally the type of place where I love eating. Relaxing atmosphere, great food, great service.
The food: let me start this by saying this is the first time I've eaten here but it won't be my last. I had the pepper jack burger with onion rings. My wife had the supreme omelette with pancakes. Breakfast all day? Yes please. That's how you know it's a great place to eat. The burger was huge. I asked for an extra patty, big mistake. The burger was probably 2/3 lbs of meat with all the fixings. I'm a big guy and I was hungry but couldn't finish it. Took it home though š. The onion rings, oh GOD, THE ONION RINGS. When I order onion rings THESE are what I want. These are the little wimpy pre frozen onion rings or at least none I've ever had. These are chonky boy onion rings. Thick manly slices of delicious sweet onion dipped in a batter that I can only assume was made by God, deep fried in oil till they are beautiful and golden brown served with ketchup that's been sitting on the table all day. How can you get better than that? My wife's omelette that's how. Big puffy egg cloud filled with every breakfast meat and veggie topped with melty delicious cheddar cheese but that's not all. Don't forget about those two plate sized pancakes. These things are THICK and FLUFFY and the kind you can only get at a place like this. Oh and I almost forgot about the bread! They brought out this amazing bread when they seated us with this cinnamon sugar butter. I could have eaten just that and been happy.
The service: Zack was an awesome server. Keep my drink filled, kind and courteous, the kind of server you tip 30+ percent just because he made your day a little better. The other waitress was extremely friendly as well. I didn't catch her name but she checked on us a few times trying to make sure everything was going well. Smiles on their faces, you could tell both of them enjoyed working here.
Atmosphere: Pickle's is the roadside diner of the old days. Large enough for many people but still that old vibe that makes you feel like you know everyone there. Dessert case filled with some of the best looking pies, cakes, and sweets. I bet they get busy during the breakfast rush but there wasn't a wait when we were there at 7:30pm on a Saturday.
If you're driving down I35 South of OKC and want somewhere to get some great food and service swing in and try them out. I'm so glad we did. We will be...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI make a habit of saving excellent restaurants that I want to return to, & Pickles just joined the top ten. Our meal started out with a loaf of Pumpernickel bread that was fresh baked & fantastic. I had the ribs & was catered to on my special requests with the sauce on the side, as well as changing up my order when I realized that I had ordered two types of potatoes for my sides(which Iām glad I changed one of them to the green beans they were great along with everything thing else). I had the half a rack which came out with 7 or 8 ribs (enough for later) falling off the bone & a good crisp edge. The sauce was great also with a little zing to it which made it just right when I dipped my meat into it. My wife had the Chicken strips with a salad & mashed potatoes with gravy. They were kind enough to replace the first salad with a second one without tomatoes & onions (we forgot to ask for it without). The cucumbers were fresh & crisp (they snapped when you bit into them)along with the rest of the salad being fresh & awesome. The mashed potatoes & gravy rounded out a perfect meal. I canāt thank Mikayla enough for her top notch service. She brought our orders out fast & the changes that we asked for even faster. She was kind, courteous, friendly & a true professional if you get a chance to eat at Pickles I hope you luck out & get her as your server. I wish we had a Pickles in Dallas so I could return more frequently. I will be back when Iām in Oklahoma City. Down home atmosphere and top of the line food and service. I donāt normally give 5-Stars but I couldnāt name one thing to complain about (& Iām told that I complain a lot(I think I just know what I want & am not afraid to express myself)). All in all definitely a 5-Star experience ending with deserts to go specially wrapped up for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis was not the visit I was expecting for it to be the first time for me and my lady friend to come here. First of all the hostess seated me while my lady friend utilized the bathroom and my drink order was taken. When my friend returned it was at least 15 minutes before someone checked on us to see if our order had been taken. We informed her that nobody has even looked in this direction. So she went ahead and took our order while we were actually contemplating on leaving but decided to stay since we were finally waited on. When our order arrived (we ordered the baby back ribs half rack) my friend's order of baby back ribs had some type of black char on most of the ribs and did not look anything like my ribs. The rice pilaf did not look like it was supposed to because it was overcooked or was not rice pilaf at all and the ribs had a weird smell nowhere close to BBQ baby back ribs. Oh did I mention that my lady friend was of the African American persuasion?? The atmosphere was not comfortable not even to me. The hostess/waitress did not make eye contact with my friend unless it was to take the order. My friend refused the dinner and was not charged but was asked if she would like something else but there was no way she wanted anything else from this place. I placed my dinner in a to go box and paid for my portion and I really didn't want to pay for it because of the service that was provided and the lack of quality of the cooks job when preparing my friend's order. Why was my order done right and my African American friend's order done wrong? I better not find out that this place has racial issues because that is bad business. I do not see color in people because I was raised to be...
