I reserved a table here for my sisters birthday dinner. She has eaten here multiple times and absolutely loves the cuisine. However, this past weekend altered her opinion of the establishment based on how we were treated with subtle racism. We arrived on time and the maître d’ walked us to our table; where my sister immediately expressed her anxiety with sitting in the middle of the floor and asked if an accommodation could be made. The maître d’ quickly dismissed our request and said all the other tables were reserved and the guest asked for specific tables. The waiter then came to the table and we asked again if we could possibly be seated at another table due to her anxiety. He said, maybe but it might throw off the numbers but he would go an ask. Before he walked away the couple at the table next to us offered us their table because they were finishing their meal. We thanked them. The table was cleaned off and the waiter returned with a different set of excuses as to why they wouldn’t be willing to accommodate our request and then loudly shouted “I don’t want to fight, here!” The whole restaurant stopped and stared at the only people of color sitting in the place. I interjected saying “please don’t say fight. It feels combative and we’re just having a civil discussion.” The waiter proceeded to walk away and did not return again. I convinced my sister we should leave and go to another Italian restaurant up the street. We grabbed our things and decided to leave because staying would have been taxing and would further steal our joy. I asked the maître d’ to cancel our reservation and she asked “if we wanted to speak to the owner?” I did not because I had already decided I wasn’t spending my money here but my sister wanted to express that she felt mistreated. They sent the manager on duty out and she was a condescending blonde haired woman who didn’t blink. She repeatedly waived a highlighted seating chart in our faces and said something rude as we exited the restaurant. I understand policy and even unavailability but I don’t understand the mistreatment when we were civil, calm and even willing to wait. Anyway, I wouldn’t recommend Barones for the melanated community, especially if you don’t want to feel like your in the segregated South. Take your patronage elsewhere. Head over to Main Street, there are multiple restaurants that won’t treat you like a second...
Read moreIt’s ok.
You first walk in and there’s no where to sit, just stand. The cake case looks a little sad, but the slices look good. When I first walked in a lot of people were waiting but the space and vibes were not inviting nor welcoming.
We got the drinks and the lemonade was good. They gave us bread it was good as well. We got fried mozzarella, I was expecting for it to be crunchy but it was pillow soft. The marinara was given on the side and it was delicious. The appetisers were great overall.
The food was something else. I got a chicken franchise with mashed potatoes and green beans. The green beans had no seasoning whatsoever on them besides black pepper. The mashed potatoes were so bland, it tasted like potato’s just mashed up and thrown on a plate, no seasoning. The chicken was good with the sauce but again not much flavour going on. My partner had gotten the chicken Parmesan, and the marinara sauce definitely saved the meal. You can taste the pasta had no salt and chicken too.
Our server was brilliant, I wish I had gotten her name. She got us refills for the drinks without us asking or waiting too long.
Overall it was a 6/10 I wouldn’t come back nor recommend this...
Read moreMy friends has well as my wife and I have been dining at Barones for over 20 years. When we want real Italian food this is where we dine. Everyone is friendly, courteous, knowledgeable about the food they serve, and are willing to make changes and substitutions to accommodate your whim and diet. Their menu doesn’t change very often, but they have plenty of daily specials not on the menu. Whether you want seafood, pasta, chicken, or veal, Barones has what you want. Their deserts are also excellent and there are plenty to pick from. They also serve a nice bowl of gelato.
On our most recent visit, my wife’s entree consisted of pasta with shrimp and a wine reduction sauce on top. My entree was a grilled pork chop with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Everyone also gets a house salad and warm rolls with butter or olive oil and herbs. You. An also add one of their delicious soups - my wife had mushroom bisque.
Barones can also handle large birthday, anniversary, engagement and wedding parties in their expanded dining room.
If you haven’t tried Barones, then you owe yourself a visit. Tell them Bob &...
