this appears to be Morgan Hill's Rustic Barbecue Haven
Choosing Trail Dust BBQ as our midpoint meeting spot for friends converging from different locations proved to be an inspired decision. Located in Morgan Hill's vibrant food and beverage district, the restaurant benefits from a bustling atmosphere that immediately signals this is a dining destination worth visiting. The abundant parking structure eliminates the usual concerns about finding a spot, allowing you to focus entirely on the culinary experience ahead.
The restaurant's design perfectly captures the authentic barbecue aesthetic with its quaint rustic charm. The thoughtful combination of indoor and outdoor seating provides options for every preference, while the weathered wooden benches outside transport you to a classic backyard barbecue setting. This attention to ambiance enhances the entire dining experience, making you feel like you've discovered a hidden gem rather than just another restaurant.
Trail Dust's menu is impressively comprehensive, offering an exhaustive selection that showcases the breadth of American barbecue traditions. From tender tri-tip and flavorful burnt ends to smoky hot links, fall-off-the-bone ribs, and succulent pulled pork, every major barbecue staple is represented. The sides menu proves equally impressive, featuring classic comfort foods like creamy potato salad, hearty greens, aromatic garlic bread, and tangy coleslaw. Their unique loaded potato dish - a generous spud filled with your choice of meat- demonstrates the kitchen's creativity in elevating traditional offerings.
Our three-choice meat plate delivered exceptional value and satisfaction, but the tri-tip sandwich truly stole the show. The meat was masterfully prepared -flavorful, succulent, and remarkably juicy, showcasing the pitmaster's skill in balancing smoke, seasoning, and cooking technique. they had a limited selection of BBQ sauce, spicy and regular - and honestly, I didn't see a need for more because these two were just amazing.
The dessert selection deserves special mention, particularly the bread pudding, which converted me into an instant devotee. This was my first encounter with this classic comfort dessert, and Trail Dust's execution was so outstanding that it has permanently earned a place on my must-order list.
the service was exceptional, the staff friendly and always making pertinent recommendations.
what really caught my eye was the fact that tucked away in the back were stacks of well cut wood for smoking the meat. a true signof an authentic BBQ.
Trail Dust BBQ has secured its position on my return itinerary for future Morgan Hill visits. Combined with my previous discovery of My Pizza, I'm beginning to recognize Morgan Hill as an emerging culinary destination with hidden treasures waiting to...
Read moreOk, I am torn here. Great meats but sides ruined the whole experience. There was a big sign saying "Ask about our Mac n cheese" or something like that. After I got my order and tried it, I definitely have a lot of questions to ask your chef. Take a look at the picture. You have to have sick imagination to call this substance Mac n Cheese. It was mushy, overcooked, pale as death, pasta product. Cheese sauce? There was not even a hint of cheese or whatever was used as cheese doesn't meet the definition of it. I would expect to get something like that in a facility run by infamous sheriff Arpaio. Please Google Mac and cheese recipe and stop reinventing a wheel. Or order bagged precooked one. It still will taste better than this. Now, let's move on to coleslaw. My girlfriend said it best "It tastes like garnish". Tasteless, dry, grass mass with zero flavor. Cows would appreciate it but I am not a cow.It was not meant for human consumption. That's for sure. Meats were great 👍. We had ribs and chicken and both were solid, fresh and tasty. Waitress said everything smoked same day except the brisket. It was two days old and they were out.The restaurant is clean, friendly staff. Great concept with walk in window. I would love to give 5 stars but still can't get over those sides. The contrast between quality of meats and sides is just too striking. I will definitely give it another try to taste other meats , maybe just got there on wrong day. 3 stars...

The Ugly None
Was in the area for a wedding. My wife and I didn't know what to eat and where to go; didn't even know what kind of food we wanted. BOOM the idea came to me. BBQ. Trail Dust came up first on the list, alright. Food looked good, alright. See pictures of beers on tap. BINGO. We came here 30 minutes before close. All the staff was friendly, didn't rush us at all. They took awhile to get the service started, but once the waiter/waitress came, everything was clear skies from there. We got our sandwiches; I got beef and my wife got chicken. Both were amazing! The bread looked like ciabatta bread but it was soft and malleable, at the same time it held all the juices and sauce in like a champ.
The only bad thing to note was the bathrooms, they could use some attention. The weren't necessarily dirty, and they were fully functional, but it's not a bathroom you really want to use either. Not enough to knock a star off though.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND if you're looking for...
