I recently visited The Little Dutch Restaurant with my family, excited to try out a local establishment with a long history in the town. Unfortunately, our experience left us thoroughly dissatisfied and unlikely to return.
First, despite having few customers in the restaurant during our visit, we were seated at a table in front of the kitchen exit door. This meant that we constantly dodged servers and their trays, making for an uncomfortable dining experience from the outset.
Our server was pleasant enough, but the drinks we ordered were nearly all ice and very little actual drink. We constantly flagged her down to ask for refills; she didn't check on us otherwise. The appetizers we ordered - fried mushrooms and potato skins - were decent but nothing to write home about.
Unfortunately, our main dishes were where things fell apart. The steak sandwich was a joke, a cheap steak thrown on a bun with fat and all. It was so tough and chewy that one of our party gave up on the sandwich and just ate the meat. The chopped steak plates were passable, but the baked potatoes on the side were clearly leftovers from the night before - dried up, burnt on the outside, and in one instance, had a cancerous-looking ball of potato innards scooped out of it. The Ruben sandwich had very little sauerkraut, and the corned beef was so dry it tasted like beef jerky. Finally, the chicken parmesan was bland, and the spaghetti noodles were tough and cardboard-like, also leftovers from the night before heated in the microwave.
All in all, we left more food on our plates than we ate, and this was an unacceptable outcome for a bill of over $100 for five dishes. We had come to The Little Dutch Restaurant with high hopes, given the rave reviews we had seen online, but our experience was anything but positive. I strongly recommend dining elsewhere and not wasting your time or money on this...
Read moreCould not be more disappointed!. I had been wanting to make the trek from Knoxville to this restaurant for sometime. It seemed so good and iconic online. We finally made it a week ago Friday. We arrived shortly before 3 and were seated immediately. There was a pretty good crowd in the restaurant. Servers were chatting with other patrons, but nobody came to our table for over 12 minutes. When the waitress finally came, we asked for water and my husband got the salad bar and I ordered the quiche. The waitress left without giving any instructions on the salad bar. We assumed since there were plates that my husband could help himself. He made a salad and came back to the table with it. He returned to get some soup and the waitress brought our waters and told me that they had no quiche of any kind that day. She asked me what I wanted instead without bringing back a menu. I told her to just bring me some French onion soup. That was one thing that I remembered from the menu and thought it could be prepared quickly. At this point, we had already been in the restaurant for 20 minutes and we had left our puppy in the car. My husband came back to the table with his soup and I told him to go ahead and eat. About 20 minutes later my husband had finished eating. Our server had never returned to the table. Our water glasses were empty and I was hungry so we left $10 on the table for the salad bar and went to another restaurant to get me some food. I am not sure why this restaurant has such great ratings. There was nothing special about the salad bar. My husband had me taste his mushroom soup because he could not believe the poor preparation. It was like watered down Campbells. At least we were able to enjoy some scenic lake views around Cherokee Lake that day so all...
Read moreWe were excited to try this restaurant as a family. None of us had been there before. Has a roch history and possitive reviews. Sadly this is not one of them. This is going to be a bit of a long review of our experience.
Issue#1 We walked in waited several minutes for the hostess, and when she finally arrived to seat us. She never greeted us..walked us over to the table placed everything down and walked off. No, Hi! how are you!?, Welcome, or Anything.
Issue #2 We sat there and waited 20 mins just for them to take our drink order. Exactly 20 mins.
Issue #3 When we finally got to place our order, they were out of the chicken salad sandwich 1 hour and 30 mins after opening. Which basically means they never bothered to prep them out for the day.
Issue #4 After eating our salads, which was the only highlight of the experience. Mostly because we got them ourselves. The waiter comes back 15 mins later to tell us the baked potatoes were still being cooked and we're not an option. Which is fine and all, though couldn't even be bothered to ask my wife if there was anything else she wanted. Just walked off. It was the only thing my wife had ordered.
Issue #5 The fries that came out looked to be frozen and were barely cooked. They were cold. The cheese on my club sandwich taste stale.
I can't remember an experience like this at any restaurant. We will stick to other restaurants in the area such as Tennessee Jack's and other chain restaurants. Very...
