Leon's Burger Express — Restaurant in Mount Airy

You'll meet the friendliest people at Leon's Burger Express. It's a cash only joint but fear not there's an ATM in the back 😂. The food is very reasonably priced and super tasty. It's the perfect place for a person like me, looking to eat home cooking on a budget. I can head in around noon and with 20$ or so and eat a large enough meal to fill me up all day. Leon's provides a warm atmosphere from the staff to the diner decor. An excellent place to eat and you shouldn't pass it up if you're visiting town for the weekend or a holiday. My dad said he'd had the "best omelette he'd ever eaten there". I'm a fan of the chili dogs, home fries, and Mac and cheese. The pancakes are absolutely huge. They barely fit on the plate. Staff was excellent. They were happy, and cheerful. There was a short wait for a table, maybe 10-15 minutes. Go figure, Saturday around noon. The food was spot on. Had the Western omelet w/home fries, and both were flavorful, and we'll prepared. The home fries were some of the best I have eaten. I know, they are "just potate chunks," but these were soft without being mushy, and had a balanced flavor such that no added "doctoring" was needed. No salt, no pepper, nothing. The omelet, had lots of flavor, too. You can taste the veggies, and the meats, without one overpowering the other. Next time I am up that way, I will make it a point to try...

This is a classic lunch counter in Mount Airy! Grab a booth for the family or sit down on a stool at the counter. I've been here multiple times for their breakfast and it is always good! The omelettes are made just right with the melted cheese, meats and veggies folded neatly inside! Biscuits are made fresh each day and just melt when you take a bite.
