Candied Rib Company kept coming up as a suggested restaurant when looking for places to eat in the city. My wife and I are in the heart of the Providence area and it's location is over 4 miles in the opposite direction of where we normally shop. Most of the places we enjoy are less than half a mile away from our home but we decided to make a trip and sample a few items from the menu.
This is not a dine in restaurant which is a shame because I think this would have been an enjoyable dine in experience. I loved the decor, locally sourced ingredients, and it's run by the family. The oldest daughter took our order. The whole family was there and it reminded of my childhood in Alabama. We had a family a few houses down from us. They owned a restaurant that my mother loved and they ran it with their 3 daughters. A nice family vibe is very appealing to me.
I wanted to start off with something simple for this first visit so we decided to try the ribs. We ordered both wet and dry ribs, they weren't the candied version I've been hearing about but the ribs here are fantastic. We ordered the dark sauce on our main slab. Really enjoyed the dry rub they use as well. Perfectly cooked delicious ribs.
We decided to order a few sides. Cheddar crusted macaroni and cheese is outstanding! You can tell it's actually made from scratch and it's not a "fast food" side that so many restaurants serve. Tried the yella slaw. This surprised me as all the previous yellow cole slaws I've tried are mustard based. Slaw had a nice unique flavor that I really want to try on a hot dog. I'm curious about the recipe.
Honey charred broccoli was selected by my wife. She loves broccoli, I merely tolerate it's existence. I sampled it after she took a bite, unfortunately she didn't love it.
We both tried the mud slide banana pudding. It's not bad. The chocolate syrup used works pretty well with a pretty tasty banana pudding. They also have chocolate chips in there and they get hard after being in fridge so it's a bit distracting but that's a personal preference.
There is a deep menu here so I definitely want to make a few more visits and try more of the items offered. I saw the husband making a few burgers that looked absolutely delicious. Loved my ribs but I'm a sucker for a good burger so I'll want to try one from there soon.
Very busy here but the food is definitely...
Read moreTHE HYPE IS REAL. Listen, I get it - Texas, Carolina, Memphis - there are different dialects to BBQ. This is probably THE BEST BBQ I’ve had and I’m a foodie from Texas. Vibe: I entered their shop to find it very cute but small. There are only a couple of tables but enough room to sit down, if you so choose. What struck me as heartwarming was this looks to be family owned, so the kiddos (who were very well behaved) were tagged in for drinks, condiments, sides, etc. Big win for me on so many levels. Ordering: Lisa was taking orders and she has to be the cutest thing ever. She put up with my billion questions with patience and we even had a few giggles. I settled on their ribs “candied” (also available traditional saucy or dry rub) with the grilled potatoes. Also, good luck not ordering EVERYTHING. Taste: You’ve heard of “slap yo mama” good - take that and multiply it. There’s actually flavor - the Cole slaw, the sauces, the ribs - you can tell this family loves what they do and wants to share that enjoyment with their product. There’s actually flavor!! The slaw is unique to anything I’ve ever had, and not tangy nor sweet but seasoned. The candied ribs are to die for - that kiss of smoke but actually tasting the layers of flavor in the meat. And these potatoes! Not basic whatsoever.
If you’ve made it to this point and you’re still not convinced, I don’t know how. This place is great, from food to service. You will...

The star of the show at The Candied Rib is undoubtedly the meat. Everything is slow-cooked to perfection, resulting in tender, juicy, melt-in-your-mouth goodness that's bursting with flavor. The sloppy rib is a must-try - it's smoky, savory, and just the right amount of sweet. The ribs are fall-off-the-bone tender, and the chicken is juicy perfection.
Overall, I can't recommend The Candied Rib enough. If you're in Tennessee and you're a fan of barbecue, you owe it to yourself to give this place a try. Your taste buds...
