Catfish King — Restaurant in Mount Pleasant

Just left this place, had it not been for my husband I would have WALKED out! First off this place needs a DEEP cleaning. The pillars that are all through the restaurant are just FILTHY! Full of old food splashed sauces. It was disgusting! Trash cans that were out to through away food were filthy! The door to the kitchen just dirty and rusty. The salad bar and drink station all a MESS! Not sanitary at ALL! Then on top of ALL of that there were more than 6 to 8 teenagers working there playing in the establishment IN FRONT OF CUSTOMERS. One Of the teens was very argumentative when the manager structured him to do a task. This whole establishment is just unstructured. I don’t blame the teens, I blame the Manager on Duty! It was plain to see this Manager doesn’t know how to handle his or her crew. If they had time to stand around playing and at the kitchen door playing some or most of them could have been sent home because no work was being done. If you have that many just standing around start cleaning that place up properly! Whole experience was awful! I must say this the other customers there were a joy to be around we all waited forever for our food ppl just start talking to each other. It’s time to remodel this place or do one MAJOR cleaning and get a night Supervisor/Manager to take control...

The fish, hush puppies, and onion rings were delicious. The salad on the salad bar was old, so old you could smell it. Lettuce was withered and brown. When staff were told about it, after telling three different staff, nothing was done. I told a fourth individual, which was the manager, she had an attitude and brought me some personally. I appreciated the final effort but it wasn't too much better than what was served on the salad bar. Other people noticed the salad as well, but, did not speak up. I spoke because I had paid for it and I deserved better, so, beware of the salad bar! I wish the food inspector had inspected that day, I wish it had been myself. When you have a lot of young people who are not being supervised correctly, this is what kind of service you get, especially when the supervisor or manager are too busy to check to see how visitors , who are eating, are doing, that's bad, bad business. My wife and I wanted fish, so while in Mt Pleasant we chose Catfish King. The facilities are really ran down, and we almost drove away from exterior experience. The money mine could definitely use a face lift. The inside not much better. However that aside, the food was good. The catfish was served hot and crisp as it should be. What surprised me the most was the salad bar. While small in size, the salad assortment was really great. Not just lettuce, but some dark greens as well. Yumm! Other items included beets (very good), three dressings, cheese, bacon bits and so on. I would return just for the salad bar. The tea was just right, not too strong, not to weak. The counter service was not exceptional. The clerk just did her job. Taking orders and getting money. About all you can expect these days. The four is for good...
