I’ve stayed at candlewood hotels all over the country and have never had not one bad experience until this hotel. I stayed at this hotel for almost a full month for business purposes, my wife, daughter and our two dogs came to stay with me a total of five non consistent days during this time. The room was very much in need of an update so I can see why the hotel is under renovations. The ac in the room created so much condensation that the carpet all around it for about two feet was wet and gave the room a musty moldy smell. The room I was put in was a handicapped room so the shower was built to be accessible to a wheelchair but the shower floor was not leveled correctly and there was no door on the actual shower so the water ran over the whole floor of the bathroom including over by and around the toilet so to keep from slipping I had to throw my towels on the floor around the shower so the whole bathroom didn’t get wet. The hotel is right next to a discount tire and they honk horns of vehicles all day starting around 8 am so there is no sleeping in accept on Sunday’s when they aren’t open. The staff had a misunderstanding of some sort about my wife’s dogs and woke her and our two year old up around 9 am one morning asking her to come sign papers I had already been told were taken care of. My wife was very upset because she felt like they were rude to her on the first phone call and that it was inappropriate to call at that time. One of her small dogs traveling with her is a diabetic alert dog that goes with her everywhere and there was a misunderstanding about that situation and we got charged for her service dog being on the premises. Also being at the end of the hallway by an exit door with no hydraulic door hinge that guests came in and out of and just let the door slam shut at all hours did not help with her other small dog who loves to bark when she thinks a door has opened because of visitors. The stay here was an overall headache and after my wife became upset and left I decided to find another place to stay and checked out the day...
Read moreI have been a Priority Club member since 1996 and have stayed at numerous Candlewood Inn and Suites and many other IHG properties. On the weekend of May 31-June 2, 2019 we were in Mount Pleasant for our son’s wedding and chose the Candlewood Inn and Suites based upon our prior experience with the chain. The desk staff did acknowledge my club membership and were courteous, but made a point of telling me that there was a $250.00 charge for smoking in the room; not a problem since we don’t smoke! When we got to our room it reeked of stale cigarette smoke. I immediately called the front desk and was told that they would make a note of it, but would not come and check it themselves. (I did catch two housekeepers the next morning and they came into the room, acknowledged the odor, cleaned the filthy air filter and sprayed something on it which worked a little). The room appeared clean, but my wife found an empty snack food bag behind her nightstand.
The worst part of the stay was I had recommended this hotel to my brother. He reserved a two room suite on April 27 since our mother would be staying in the room with him and his wife. I met them at the front desk when they arrived just after 11pm on May 31. The night clerk told him that the suite he had reserved was not available and all they had was a room with two full size beds. She did say they might have a king room available the next morning. I explained to her that might be an awkward sleeping arrangement with all three of them in the same bed. I asked if they could comp them another room for our mother to stay in since it was their mistake on not having the two room suite he had reserved over a month before. She called the manager and he told her that was not possible. When we got to their room it reeked of something dead and the telephone didn’t work. The excuse I was given by multiple staff was that the hotel had just changed management and they were still “trying to figure things out”. Well, what I figured out was we will NEVER stay at this...
Read moreReserved 2 king rooms close to each other since we would be traveling with my elderly mom. Received a call that day that they did not have two kings. Hotel was full. No problem, mom could take a queen. They assured me that they had one and that they would give me two rooms that were close. Mom’s room looked fine. Our room was not clean at all. There was food in the fridge, trash in the trash can, stains on the pillowcase and the bed looked like it had been slept in. The sheets were molded into the creases of the mattress. Sheets do not settle into the creases unless someone has laid on them. Called the front desk and the two ladies came to check it out. They brought fresh pillow cases but I requested fresh sheets as well. They remade the bed and took the bag of strawberries from the fridge. We were told that they would credit 500 points to our account for our inconvenience and get with the manager to see what else they could do. It was only for one night and since mom was settled and there were no more rooms, we stayed. A little later I checked the fridge again and found lettuce and cucumbers I. One of the bottom drawers. The bed was not comfortable. One side dropped down when you sat in it. I finally figured out that it was because part of the box spring was dropping off of the rail. The pillows were also very uncomfortable so we ended up tossing and turning all night. Also, either the walls are very thin or the people above us were stomping around all evening in army boots. We did go to the pantry to see about getting some cereal for the next morning. They had some but there was absolutely no milk. We asked about it and the lady said that if there was none then they were out and would not get any. I believe that they did what they knew to do. There needs to be better training and, if there is not a manager on staff at any time, then the workers need to be empowered to handle all situations and make decisions. We never heard back from any manager or found out what else they could do for our...
