Dulce de Leche Paczki: O&H Danish Bakery opened in 1949 and has been family owned for four generations. Although they’re known primarily for their Kringles, one of their unique seasonal offerings is paczki. A paczki is sometimes confused with a doughnut, but there are some key differences. Paczki are denser, richer, and chewier because they contain more eggs, butter, and enriching ingredients like high-gluten flour and grain alcohol. Like a bismark doughnut, they are deep-fried dough, filled with confiture (yuck) or other sweet filling, and are usually covered in powdered sugar, icing, or glaze. They originated in Poland as a way to use up leftover ingredients that are considered rich in flavor before the start of lent. Don't feel bad if you've never heard of paczki as they are a regional treat in the U.S. (primarily in the Midwest). Even though I've lived in the Midwest my entire life, I've avoided paczki as I find fruit filling to be gross (like traditional prune, really!?). O&H solved my problem with their new Dulce de Leche Paczki. It's absolutely stuffed with smooth caramel custard, topped with rich caramel icing, and teeming with crunchy toffee bits and a few chocolate chunks. My paczki was huge and hefty thanks to all that filling, and they did not skimp like some doughnut shops notoriously do. To be honest, I did not notice any difference with the texture compared to that of a doughnut (not a complaint, just observation). Another observation is it looked different from the stock photo and even some of the others on display. Specifically, it had significantly less chocolate chunks and way more toffee. I was disappointed initially, but it ended up being irrelevant because what surprised me the most was the crunchy toffee bits. The texture and flavor were fantastic, while on the other hand the chocolate was overly bitter. In the end, I chose wisely for my first ever paczki, Doughboy approved 😋 Doughboy_Food_Reviews *I hope this is back next year and that they continue to experiment with non-fruit flavors, like Nutella and cookie butter. It would be nice if paczki were available for a week or so instead of one day, but there might be a logistical reason for that or they're just traditionalists. I also want to note that I chose O&H over several other local bakeries for my first paczki for a few key reasons: Online ordering Multiple locations (one was conveniently near me) Flavor...
Read moredon’t use them if you need to buy a cake for an event when I called and placed my cake order, I was given options as to what kind of frosting what kind of cake I stated whipped frosting white cake. She asked me if I wanted a cream filling or raspberry filling, and I said raspberry filling. I just need the sides, smooth and no border along the bottom or top cause I had a edible design that I needed to put around the cake. The woman on the phone told me I would have to go to the Washington location for this. I said that is fine and the cake will be ready at 2 PM. The day of the party I got there around 2:40 I was greeted and helped right as I walked through the door. I thought they couldn’t find my cake. I waited for that person who went to look for 25 minutes. person was in the back looking for my cake. He comes out with a cake that has piping all around the sides and the top and I told him my cake is supposed to be smooth side, smooth top no piping white whipped frosting a woman came and told me that was not an option. I feel like my cake was probably made properly and then as I picked it up, they decided to add all this piping. I told him I had a edible display that I had to put around the cake and I cannot do it like this, but I asked him to remove that piping, and she said that they cannot being it was the day of the event and I still needed a cake for my daughter‘s birthday. I thought let me bring it home and try to fix it myself so that I can put the display on it. She offered me a $10 discount. It wasn’t even a white cake. It was a yellow cake. I ended up having to last minute run to Pick N Save and buy a premade cake that was too small for me to put all my decorations on one cake, but thank God for Pick N Save‘s bakery they saved the day I said all that to say, don’t use this place if you want a specific look cause they’re going to give you what they want to give you and...
Read moreI met with Katie in March of this last year and we put together an order for my wedding cakes for this last October. She told my mother, my sister, my now mother in law, and myself that I shouldn't put any money down for my cakes because it was still early, and we shouldn't worry about anything until the week of the wedding. We all heard her say that sentence specifically. Well, the week of my wedding came around and I heard nothing about my cake so we went in to the store. Katie was already gone for the day, but whoever helped us assured us that the same sheet that I had was in Katie's paperwork for cakes that she was supposed to make for that month and if it was in that folder, then my cakes would be made, absolutely no worries at all. The next afternoon, I got a phone call from Katie. She proceeded to blame me for the misunderstanding saying, and I quote, "You never called us back and so we assumed that you went with another bakery. I don't like being pushy so if I don't hear from someone, I just figure that they went with someone else." She also said "We can maybe, possibly, whip together some sheet cakes if you want me to try." I never heard from her again. I called back after my wedding to complain about everything and the person that I talked to took down my information and told me that they were really sorry that this happened to me, it's not normally how Katie runs business, etc. They also told me that they would talk to Katie and see what she had to say about everything. No response from that phone call either. I wouldn't recommend O&H for a wedding under any circumstances. We have used O&H for numerous family occasions and this isn't the first time that they've messed everything up. Never again will anyone that I know go here for anything. Beware of Katie and...
