Big Scoop — Restaurant in Mount Vernon

EDIT- I found out that the woman who was rude to us was one of the owners of the restaurant.

The customer service we had today totally ruined my perception of this place. From the start, one employee was snippy with us at the counter and made a confusing suggestion as to where to sit. It looked like she was going to have us sit at a larger booth meant for a group (we’re a couple) and it was busy for them, so we decided to pick another smaller booth that hadn’t been bussed yet. It was so busy that they were struggling to keep up with bussing tables. After we sat, she stormed over to our table and told us rudely “this is why I told you to sit over there. It’s a health code thing.” I work in food safety and quality control. The excuse she gave did not make sense, and the way she said it TOTALLY soured the evening and the ice cream. Even if it was an issue, that is absolutely not the way to handle the situation. We didn’t even finish our sundae. If you’re a grown woman working customer service and you can’t figure out the basics of being polite and managing situations, it’s time to retire. I drove up to Mt. Vernon from Olympia to spend a few days with my best friend! While out and about we stopped at Big Scoop and Oh My Gosh this just blew my mind! I am a major ice cream lover and Big Scoop is just the BEST! Beats out Ben & Jerry and Haagen-Dazs in my book! I had a big scoop of butter pecan in a waffle cone that will keep me dreaming about it for weeks and encourage another trip to Mt. Vernon really soon!! They also have yummy burgers and fries! The staff was super friendly and had smiles for days! Customer Service is on the very top of their agenda! Big Thanks to Gwen, Petra, Debbie, Lyshel, Allyssa and Clara the Owner/Manager who stopped at our table and chatted with us. The Big Scoop was clean, sanitary and all the customers were enjoying their experience along with the burgers and ice cream!! Great Job, Great Efforts, Great Ice Cream!! WELL...

I've been a patron of this establishment for the past 20 years, and I must say, the service, atmosphere, and food and dessert selections are excellent. Recently revisiting after returning home, I found that this place has not missed a beat. The food is delicious and reasonably priced, with an amazing array of ice cream cones and sundaes available. Personally, my favorite is the Banana Split.
