McAlister's Deli — Restaurant in Mount Vernon

We stopped through here on a trip and had a great experience. I used to eat at McAlister's often when I was growing up so I was thrilled to see one along our route.

I ordered ahead but didn't get the order placed until we were about 5 minutes away. It wasn't quite ready when we got there but I didn't wait long.

The first thing I noticed when we pulled up was the "expecting mother" parking spaces up front. This is something I've never before seen but have thought about many times!

The prices were reasonable and they have a reward program which includes a free tea when you sign up. They have great sweet and unsweetened tea.

My husband got a steak and cheese sandwich and I ordered the king club. The king club is massive! It was only a dollar fifty or so more than the McAlister's club and said it was twice ingredients so I figured my hangry husband could have some if he wanted. I'll tell you what, it really is double the sandwich, we could have shared it!

Stopped tonight passing through the area. We got there at 7 PM. We ordered 2 sandwiches; a cold club, and a hot beef, horseradish and cheddar along with a half a spud, a bag of chips and 2 drinks. After paying $28 we sat in the drive thru waiting for our food for 25 minutes. After waiting, my roast beef, horseradish and cheddar sandwich was cold. Part of the bread was burnt and the side that wasn't burnt barely had any toppings other than sauce. The baked potato was barely warm. The bag of chips was full of crumbs. They gave us 2 free cookies for waiting so long and they were hard and dry. There weren't any napkins in the bag either. This is the 2nd time we've had this experience at the Mt. I went in around 2:00 PM and there were three females around the counter. On was working on something directly in front of me and did not acknowledge me at all. She finally turned without saying a word, picked up a soda and exited to the right. The remaining two were at the window where the food comes out and one was on their phone and the other was just standing there and then they started talking to each other. I was there for 10 minutes before one of them turned and took my order. The lady behind me was treated the same way. This was the worst service I have ever experienced.
