After just getting home from waiting almost 20 minutes (as the only car) in the drive-thru at the Muncie, IN location, I feel compelled to type a review.
I have never been more confused and frustrated by a restaurant in my entire life than I am by the Muncie location Steak'n'Shake. I mean really all SnS locations have deplorable service...but this one takes the cake. Literally no matter what time of day or night you go, they are short-staffed. When you walk in you stand in the waiting area while no one even acknowledges your presence. It's like the servers are playing a secret game that the customers don't know about called "Who can ignore them the longest." (The experience in the drive-thru is similar as every time I pull up they say "Be with you in a moment" which then becomes the longest moment ever). Anyway... eventually some poor soul will bite the bullet and seat you. I suggest having your drink order, and maybe even food order, planned ahead of time because you will most likely never see your server again. Not their fault when they are pretty much running the entire dining room themselves. I get it and I see how hard they are working. But loooord.
If you want a milkshake they are good but take my advice and order it to-go at the beginning of your time there because I promise that you won't get it in a timely manner so just don't get your hopes up. Food usually doesn't take too long once you actually get to order it. And it tastes good. I truly enjoy SnS food, and the price is right which I guess is why I continue to put myself through the service torture.
Basically, if you are poor and hungry and like good greasy food with several options, the Steak'n'Shake in Muncie, IN is your place! If you need to actually be anywhere within the next 2 hours, are in any kind of hurry at all, or can't stand feeling like a burden to the staff...I would avoid this one.
Remember, order your shake early to-go because I think they have to go milk the cow in a far away field to make it. At least that's how it feels. You are welcome for this...
Read moreWas there last weekend we waited for over 30+ mins to be seated. Which wouldn't have been bad but there was plenty of empty seats, like over half the restaurant. However, the waitresses just kept look at us like they couldn't be bothered to seat us, no one spoke to us. They lost a great deal of business that day because 4 groups of people ahead of us that had been waiting as long if not longer left since no one was helping them. Once we finally got a seat, we had to be asked for the table to be cleared because it was sticky with milkshake on it & then it was another 30+ mins before a waitress impatiently took our order. Even though we told her we were ready to order when we sat down. She didn't even take our drink order. When we were finally able to order the food came out hot, fast, and was very delicious. However, we had to hunt our waitress down ketchup there was none on the tables, and then for drink refills, and and then again for the bill. No one came to the table without us having to seek out help. I actually think another customer left without paying because they couldn't their waitress to bring them their bill. The table next to us asked to speak to the manager because they found something in their milkshake and was told the manager was busy but they would take the charge for the milkshake off their bill. I'm not sure what was wrong with the milkshake but considering the lady was gagging and was not happy not being able to speak to the manager, I figured it had to be something bad. What I think was the most upsetting to them was we could hear the waitress laughing & joking around behind the drink station. Where also someone (who I am assuming is the manager) go "comp it and tell them I'm busy" Needless to say it was a terrible experience all around. Which is sad; because it used to be one of the best places to eat. My family will not be returning nor did I or will I buy any gift cards like I normally do for office gifts. Read moreAs a restaurant manager, i HATE leaving bad reviews. I knew the Colts game was tonight and steak n shake might be a bit busy, so with that in consideration, I was prepared to wait A LITTLE. Nope, I pulled into the drive thru at 830 pm. It was 920 pm when i finally had my order taken. If my family's hearts werent set on steak n shake I would have left like the many others in line did. While waiting many employees were running out to smoke. (I understand) However, they were very loudly complaining about their jobs and how people need to eat at home. (Unprofessional). As I finally reach the window I have to wait another 10 mins for the manager to fix my order because the girl messed up. (Again, I understand). Then, a gal hands me my order BEFORE the drinks. Clearly didnt check it because I was missing the fries. Irritated because it was then 945 pm and I had just wasted OVER AN HOUR of my time, I am home and our food is cold, the milkshakes are completely melted, and my salad is missing dressing. Havent checked the toppings on our sandwiches yet, but i assume thats probably incorrect too. We are very disappointed!! P.S. You know it's extra bad when you cant even get a reciept for your meal because the store doesn't want bad...
