Wasabi Japanese Steak House — Restaurant in Murfreesboro

It was the Saturday before Mother's Day and I decided to treat the family to dinner that night instead of Sunday because I knew all of the restaurants would be crowded. I guess half of Murfreesboro decided to do the same thing. We ended up at Wasabi because their wait was the shortest. I'll say it wasn't bad...nothing to write home about but it wasn't bad. The restaurant was a little small and like so many Japanese Steak Houses of today, they realized that they couldn't make enough money on Hibachi alone so they turned part of the restaurant into a normal sit down area. I wanted Hibachi so we waited for the parties to clear out. Overall, Wasabi is average. The chef was entertaining, he had a few jokes that I had not already heard a million times at other Hibachi joints (yes, I know this style of cooking is actually Teppanyaki but I'm not a foodie so I don't care about the distinction). The food was decent but it's no place that I would make a special trip to (I live over an hour away, I was in town to visit my son). I've been to a number of Japanese Steak houses and unfortunately, they pretty much all follow the same formula. Wasabi is no exception. Good food, but...

as others have stated, gross in the cleanliness dept.

We had made online reservations for 5:30 and was running late so called to inform them however the lady that answered the phone did not apparently understand English as the only response I got was any time I mentioned 'reservation' she would say 'ok, how many'. After four of those, I politely said goodbye.

As you walk in you are greeted with 'old' smell - that smell when a place just really never gets clean.

We were seated at the first booth, I went to the restroom. Urinal out of order ok so went to the stall and the trash can was overflowing with used TP - the brown kind. My feet made sticky noises against the floor while I was in there.

I returned to the table and my wife excused herself as well and while she was gone I looked around, mostly at the horridly nasty carpet with bits of, well, everything all over the place. I believe that would be the source of the 'old' smell. Wife told me she saw two vacuums out but apparently they are for show. I would guess the carpets have never been cleaned and really, who puts carpet in a restaurant.

Wife had a very similar experience in the ladies restroom.

We ordered two meals and three appetizers. You get four crab Rangoon for almost 6 dollars . this food had no flavor at all . the chicken was dried out , overcooked , the shrimp was overcooked but even if it had been cooked perfect as the steak was it had no flavor nothing the rice had no flavor. We ended up throwing our food away I have never thrown $60 worth of food in the trash before. I got the $30 meal plus 2 appetizers . It broke my heart to have to throw the meals away the other meal was just the $17 regular chicken hibachi meal mine was I think the special hibachi it had filet mignon, shrimp, and chicken with vegetables and rice. It was horrible if I could give this zero stars I would have but one is the lowest I could go so that’s what I did. I would never ever order from this restaurant again and waste my money. I tried to look online to find reviews and I couldn’t find them last night and it was getting late I wish that I had tried even harder. Don’t say you wouldn’t warned. I didn’t try to call them because if you don’t add flavor and u thought this was ok to send out you would give me a hard time I’m sure. I was so disappointed I knew if I called I wouldn’t...
