Disappointed by Service, Despite Good Food

I’ve dined at this establishment a few times and usually enjoyed the food, which I’ll still say is quite good. However, my experience on Sunday, July 27 at 10:00 PM left a lot to be desired—and unfortunately, it may be my last visit.

Upon arriving, I simply wanted to check if the buffet was still open. A straightforward yes-or-no question should have taken one second to answer. Instead, I was left standing for seven whole minutes while five servers at the front—along with another customer—were tangled in some sort of argument. Not one staff member paused to address me politely or acknowledge my presence.

One employee, a young woman in a white shirt, repeatedly told me, “It’s your choice if you want to stay or leave.” Frankly, that’s not how you speak to someone who came with the intention to dine, not debate. If I had planned to leave, I wouldn’t have walked in in the first place. I had a simple plan—grab some food, enjoy it quietly, and leave before the 10:30 PM closing time. That window was more than reasonable.

Instead, I was met with passive dismissiveness and zero professionalism. It was the first time I’ve seen a restaurant indirectly refuse service while pretending to be polite. No clear communication. No courtesy. Just vague statements and attitude.

Again—the food? Solid. The experience? Uncomfortable and unwelcoming. Front-end service matters just as much as what’s on the plate, and until that’s fixed, I’ll be spending my...

I never write reviews, but this place needs one. I can almost guarantee with absolute certainty that these reviews are paid for. If you look closely, EVERY SINGLE seafood buffet in Myrtle has exactly 4.6 or 4.7 stars with thousands of reviews. They all employ bots to leave reviews to keep the highest score while competing with each other. Now as for this particular restaurant:

This was BY FAR the absolute WORST buffet I have ever been to. The DFAC in the military was miles ahead of this place. Do not confuse this place with another in the area that has a similar name. The selection was mostly just fried food that was all dry. It all had a strange flavor that almost reminded me of what a dog smells like. The non-fried "food" was so bad that you would be better served by buying microwaveable meals from the grocery store. I actually felt nauseous while eating here. The crab legs were all dry and the butter container was so dirty that it had a bunch of particles floating in it. This place cost my family of 5 $220. You could literally go have an amazing meal at a sit down restaurant for that price. Or better yet, go spend $40 at chick fil a and you won't be forced to live a lifetime of regret from spending even a moment in this place. I warned people coming in while I was on my way out, and the least I can do is warn all of you from spending your hard earned money by coming...

If you're looking for an unforgettable dining experience, the Captain Benjamin's Calabash seafood buffet is simply unbeatable! From the moment you walk in, the sheer variety and quality of the food will leave you speechless, but the true stars of the show are the crab legs—delicious, fresh, and plentiful. Perfectly cooked and served with warm, fragrant garlic butter!

And that's just the beginning! The buffet offers shrimp and grits that are out of this world—creamy, flavorful, and with just the right touch of spice. It's clear the chefs here know how to create Southern comfort food at its finest.

For those with a sweet tooth, the massive dessert bar is like stepping into a dream. From cakes to pies to fresh pastries, it's hard to choose just one thing (so I didn't!). But the real showstopper? The chocolate fondue fountain. Dipping fresh strawberries and fluffy marshmallows into cascading melted chocolate is a dessert experience like no other. It's decadent, indulgent, and absolutely perfect for anyone who loves a sweet treat.

From start to finish, [Restaurant Name] delivers a buffet experience that balances both quantity and quality, offering an exceptional variety of dishes that cater to every craving. Whether you're a seafood lover, a fan of Southern classics, or just in the mood for an indulgent dessert, this buffet is a must-visit. Highly...

We had an incredible dining experience, and a big shout-out goes to our server, Luke! His customer service skills and manners were truly exceptional. He ensured we were having a great time and went above and beyond to accommodate some of our more unusual requests. The buffet spread was quite good! I was particularly fond of the stuffed crab, shrimp Alfredo, and fried catfish. The menu had a fantastic variety, and I couldn’t get enough of the lobster mac and cheese, crab cakes, and shrimp jambalaya. Honestly, all the shrimp dishes were absolutely delicious, and enjoying all-you-can-eat crabs seasoned with Old Bay was a real treat! The collard greens were full of flavor too, standing out compared to other buffets I’ve been to. Tim, presumably the owner or manager, made it a point to check in with guests multiple times, ensuring everyone was enjoying their meal. I truly believe Luke deserves a bonus for the outstanding service he provided tonight. The establishment itself was impressively clean, and the busboys and cleaning staff did a fantastic job. It’s also beautifully decorated, creating a lovely atmosphere. If I had one suggestion, it would be to play some light music in the background to fill any quiet moments. Overall, an enjoyable experience!

First time eating here. I thought, just maybe, they might have good crab legs. Since the parking lot was packed and that's what I had a taste for. The greeter was nice. The waiter was very attentive. I was told that the buffet price was 49.99. Of course, I expected the food to taste like it was worth 49.99. I started with a plate. Shrimp and vegetables tasted ok, but nothing special. Some tasted bland. I went back for crab legs. Very disappointing.☹️ When I cracked a leg open the meat broke too. It was Sooooo dry and had a funny taste. Equivalent to being under a heat lamp for an extended period of time. I tried dipping in butter. Didn't help. Everything else I tried was very mediocre or below. Very much not worth the 49.99. Maybe 30-35 tops.Just because there was a big selection. I found out that if a customer has a problem with something, the manager doesn't want to correct it or care about the customer's concern. He just dismisses it and says try something else. I won't be dining here again. There are better places with better food that's worth the money.

We come to Myrtle Beach every year and almost always eat at the same ayce crab place. However, my husband and I branched our and tried Benjamins and it was so good! Don't be deceived by the outside (which imo was not inviting). The inside is pristine and really beautiful. There's no major fish smell either like some places have. Everything tastes great! They had tons of ayce crab legs that were perfectly cooked. And they had some really tender steaks, amazing gator, and even a chocolate fountain! Oh and I can't forget the canolis... They were crisp and so delicious! The waitress was not very warm and her very Russian accent was hard to understand, but she did a decent job. Came again this year and the food was even better than last year!!!! Our waitress was great too. Highly recommend!!! I highly recommend!!!! $49.99/adult but monster coupon book has $5 off per person (which covers the tax). We didn't take the kids so not sure on their price. Oh and drinks are $3.50 more for soda. *Not many photos... Too busy eating! 😁
