When we arrived to the hotel we asked the lady how much it was going to be to stay 2nights “she asked for how many people?” I told her 2kids 2adults. She told me 2 nights will come out to be $209 with tax $238! Then told me that it’s the only room available (this was for ocean front). I said sweet deal but still thought it was too high (that I wanted to see if I can get a little bit better, we don’t vacation), I told her I would be back to see if there was a different hotel closer to where we wanted to be. She then told me this is the last room that no room would be available until 10-11am that same day ( we got there around 8am) I said that was fine I’ll go eat breakfast to kill the time. As I’m walking out I asked for a business card to so that I would be able to call in case one came up available. We started looking and most places were booked or over $500. So by 9:30 I called back and asked if there was one available and she said no we still have one open at 10-11am I said ok I’ll be there soon to book it, I even asked her if it was still $238 and she replied with yes it will still be $238. I went in with my family when we arrived we were filling out the verbal question handed our cards over (license and debit card) as she tells me for 2nights it’ll be $238 are you still ok with this price I proceeded to tell her yes as long as it was ocean view front! She also replied with yes it is ( it was). We get our stuff out the car and it took us about 2hrs to get settled I’m showered etc! Then my son comes out the room and says mom there is a nasty bug in our bathroom. I looked at him and went to look and he showed me and it was a nasty bed bug!!!! I went down to tell the night shift girl about it and she told me we would have to eat for soso to go up and spray your room! I said what that’s it we don’t get offered anything she’s like no ma’am that’s all we offer! So we went to walk hoping that it was going to be ok and then went to our show and prayed that it was the only one! The next morning we woke up to go to breakfast at west gate hotel as I’m doing the tour the same lady who checked us into our hotel calls me to ask me if we were checking out I then said no we were reserved for two nights and she kept insisting no that we weren’t I’m like then why was the price at $238 she goes bc for your room it was that price set for 1 night I’m like no I told you we were staying 2nights and she then told me that it was in the system for one night and you never told me two nights. Then I asked her to hold off bc we were busy and then and she asked how long I told her she said ok I finally reached a wayto get out of that other hotel to get my belongings and asked her what was up with this mess and she then told me that she told me the room was one night bc they had someone else coming in! I said whatever and went to go grab my things to my room being locked I couldn’t get my stuff! I asked if they can open the door and they said no we normally aren’t allowed too my husband went to get the key at the front desk and asked for a new key and they barely wanted too he then flipped bc the ac in our room was barely working and we were hot coming from Chicago Illinois we just wanted to enjoy our first family vacation that we worked so hard for! We then got our stuff and just walked out bc we were just that frustrated and we were going to ask to purchase the room for an extra night on top of our 2 nights but bc of the looks of the room and everything being sticky we chose to go back home! Bc if the bad experience we ended up just packing up and going home!!! Never will go...
Read moreI recently booked a room at this hotel, only to be met with the most unprofessional and appalling treatment I have ever experienced. As a local, I was shocked to find that they do not accommodate residents – a fact that is glaringly absent from their website. I had booked my stay online, paid in full, and anticipated a comfortable night after a long day. Instead, I was met with disdain and absolute contempt from the front desk staff.
Upon arrival, I was bluntly informed that “locals are not allowed” without any explanation or courtesy. I tried to reason with them, highlighting that I had seen plenty of locals checking in before, but it was clear they were picking and choosing which locals they deemed “acceptable.” After being treated like a nuisance rather than a guest, I was left with no room, no assistance, and certainly no apology. I ended up sleeping in my car—an experience I would not wish on my worst enemy.
Waking up in a parking lot was only the beginning of my troubles. During my unfortunate research on the hotel’s actual conditions, I discovered that it is infested with bedbugs, roaches, and even rats. The hotel clearly has no qualms about its unsavory clientele, with visible traces of drug use and prostitution everywhere – which poses a real danger of being mistaken for a prostitute or a drug user yourself. The atmosphere is sketchy, and you feel like you're walking on eggshells, constantly at risk for robbery or assault.
It seems the hotel operates on a double standard: during summer, they treat locals like pariahs, but come winter, they’re practically begging for anyone to fill their empty rooms. This inconsistency demonstrates a lack of integrity and respect for the community they claim to serve.
In short, do yourself a favor and keep far away from this place. Not only will you face rude and discriminatory treatment, but you’ll also be putting your safety at risk. If you want a good night’s sleep, you’re better off anywhere else. Avoid this hotel unless you enjoy sleepless nights in a car and the...
Read moreOther than having to get additional card keys to access our room, the price was reasonable, and the location was excellent!!! We stumbled upon the Sea Dunes by accident while looking for public access to the beach, and stayed for 3 days the third week of August, right after Hurricane Debra. Access from our room was only a short walk to the Beach, and there are plenty of places in walking distance on the nearby strip to eat, shop, and even a couple of places with ferris wheels, roller coasters, and carnival style rides. Tracking sand back into one's room is nearly impossible to avoid. House keeping provided additional towels, the room was clean and spacious with a shared bed. The bathroom was small but everything functioned. TV and Wi-Fi, and morning coffee are about the only amenities for about $90 per night in the busy season, with a $40 cash deposit when checking in.
On the Beach there are plenty of sea shells to collect, a view of motels heading south, and a view of the nearby pier North of the 7th Ave. entryway. I was even able to find about 17 fossilized Shark teeth. If one prefers, there is an in-ground swimming pool. What they don't tell you is that Rip Tides are a hazard, so be aware and pay attention to the signs. Read and know the conditions before getting into the surf. Beware of the Canal inlet area at high tide.
Like anywhere along a coastline, keep an eye out and know what to do in advance related to rogue waves.Read and understand the different flags and use situational awareness as it relates to what is an ever changing water environment. Especially watch your children, or elderly patrons.
You may or may not see Dolphins early in the day. Nearby charters are available for anyone wanting a boat ride, as well as night deep sea fishing or catching sharks. Lots to do and see nearby, and again since this is an older and smaller hotel the best part is the location! Don't forget to claim your cash deposit before leaving! Be safe, soak up some vitamin D, Don't forget the sun block, and...
