I had such high hopes for this place, due to the high rated reviews… My husband and I visited this establishment on 4/6/2024. We were greeted by a very nice elderly woman, after discovering this was our first time she gave us the run down on how things work (she was truly a sweetheart) we found our own table in what could only be described as a congested room with no real sense of organization. The food looked good, however I did notice that there were not that many main selections to choose from but plenty of sides. I opted to get a little of everything that peaked my interest, mash potatoes with gravy, Mac and cheese, greens, chicken and dumplings and fried chicken. My husband had some similar items as well as fried fish. The food was bland, the Mac and cheese was way over cooked and the mash potatoes were thick but watery tasting, the fried chicken was also bland but cooked well (golden brown crispy and flavorless) the greens were actually flavorful but after eating a few fork fulls my stomach started to churn a bit. I opted to stop as I had a weird feeling that this visit would not end well. My husband didn’t like his food either and also felt weird we immediately began to get really nauseous, we didn’t bother letting anyone know as their sign clearly states “No Refunds”. Needless to say we spent our whole day in our hotel room with heavy vomiting and diarrhea. Then came the chills and sweats. Unfortunately for us it was the last day before our trip would end, so we couldn’t enjoy our last full day. I would never recommend anyone eat here. The price we paid makes more sense now for the food poisoning we received around $27 for two people. Don’t believe the hype!
UPDATE: Asking your locals is fine, however locals are not the only customers you have. Furthermore, I’m from Virginia and I am a soul food chef, so if the issue were ingredients I would have said that…I would advise you to read all of the 1star reviews that share similarities, we can’t all just “ be not used to your ingredients”. I pray you learn and grow from this and stop blaming non local customers for your failures, as quite a few of those 1star reviews comes from...
Read moreSimply Southern Smokehouse in Myrtle Beach , South Carolina was so good and only $12 ! The employees were nice and the bus boy would clean the tables and bust out in song . He sang Lynard Skynard -Simple Man , really good . Chicken Bog , Carolina Pulled Pork , rib , hush puppies , mashed potatoes and gravy , corn , banana pudding and apple cobbler . Yummm ! Go try it when you visit Myrtle Beach on Mr Joe White Avenue .
I made it here about 30 minutes before closing on October 8th and they were nice enough to let me in unlike some businesses that cut off before that . There were a couple other tables with people still there so I didn't feel like I was the only one there . They told me to take my time and eat what I wanted and they wouldn't remove the food from the line till everyone had their fill and was ready to go . I made a full plate the first time and a half plate for seconds . When I left there was still one couple there who left shortly after me . The bus boy was so nice and we talked a little .
Now the food ! The fried chicken was so good . I got a nice sized chicken breast and it was cooked just right with good battered skin . Carolina pulled pork was good with a hint of the vinegar based sauce , but they also had it on the table so I added more to give it more of a kick . Chicken bog was good , but didn't have a lot of chicken in it , but lots of sausage . The bus boy said people a lot of times get all the chicken out of it and I can always ask to have them add more chicken to it . It was way better than the place I had it at the next day . The rib was just okay , but meaty .
Mashed potatoes and gravy were spot on and the hush puppies were nice and moist inside . The corn was just okay . Banana pudding was creamy and good and the cobbler was really really good . I would definitely recommend coming here . If I would have been in town longer I would have definitely came back for dinner again . The place is clean , the employees are great , and the atmosphere is very nice . The outside looks like a big country house . One of the best meals I had in my 2 weeks in...
Read moreI eat here every chance I get. Best deal in MB. Fried chicken is better than Aunt B's. Wish they werent closed two days a week..but it aint all about me.
Edit: There is a review from a Mrs. Tarimisha Mahone with a one star rating and some outlandish claims. Im from Virginia..just like she is..so where youre from has nothing to do with taste. A lot of the buffets with Southern Food do tend to lean towards the bland side due to the diets of the elderly. Not here. I eat here regular and have never eaten anything bland. For her to say the chicken is bland is absurd. The breading on this fried chicken is awesome. I could eat only the breading and be happy. Also..most people have been food poisoned at some time or the other..including myself. I have never took one bite and had my stomach start churning instantly..ever. I mean..the body cant even begin to digest food that fast. It begins..but it will take longer that a minute or two to feel anything. How could she have eaten enough of all that she claims..and started getting sick in mere minutes..with no one else in the restaurant having had a similar experience. Someone would have complained before she arrived..and at least while she was there. Seems more like she had a plan and did not see the "no refunds" sign until it was too late. I have never experienced anything like this and have never heard of it happening to anyone else. I am a local..I eat here regular..but these people dont know me from Adam..I always use the drive thru. Shame on her. If she would have not made impossible accusations..her story might would have been more believable..she simply went too far. Who gets sick while they are still there..within a few minutes..but fails to mention it..knowing that others may suffer as she claims...
