I hate to write up a long review like this, but we felt compelled to do it so hopefully Haverty’s management can learn from our dissatisfaction and improve on their future customer experience. After recently moving n buying a new home in the North Myrtle NMB, SC area a few months ago, we wanted to furnish our home with all new bedroom furniture. A couple of friends recommended Havertys and were satisfied with what they bought, they suggested we visit one of their stores. So on 7/23/22, we went to their Myrtle Beach store initially looking to get 2 bedroom sets. We were greeted by our sales rep, Rod who was a very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful guy (and is NOT a part or cause of our dissatisfaction in this review). We came across n inspected their Briar Lake bedroom set collection, we really liked the design/color n strong hard wood quality of the bed frame/headboard n all their accompanying dresser and end table pieces. We agreed to purchase a majority of this set (5 pieces) which included 2 chests (one w/door), 2 night stands & Queen panel bed. In addition to this Briar Lake bedroom set, we also decided to buy another bed (The Belmont metal Queen bed but no other additional pieces), 3 Chamblee counter height leather stools, and the complete Waterbury kitchen dining table set. The total cost we spent that day was a little under $11K. We recvd 3 (out of 5) pieces of our Briar Lake queen bedroom set which were 2 night stands & 1 door chest dresser. All seemed to be OK except for an unusual strong fishy smell in all the drawers. My wife calls their Cust Svce to follow up about the fishy smell in bedroom furniture n told her that it’s probably from the varnish used on it and/or from heat while it was stored in the warehouse. They suggested we should wrap charcoal in newspaper, or use dryer sheets, etc. and put it in the drawers and wait a few more days to see if the smell goes away. Remember we spent 6k on the bedroom furniture and we have to do this! We waited 4 more days to see if the smell went away (which it didn’t). We were getting nauseous at times having to breathe in that toxic fishy smell while trying to sleep. We had to call Cust Svce once again. They suggested we wait a little longer to see if smell in the bedroom furniture goes away. As you might imagine, we were so pissed and said NOT TO deliver ANY MORE bedroom furniture (regardless if it came in stock soon) until they agreed to replace the smelly dressers n 2 night stands which they agreed to. Once they got all those replaced bedroom items in stock, before they scheduled any delivery date on them, we asked to personally visit their store again, n inspect them along with the other bedroom dresser furniture that wasn’t yet delivered, to make sure there was no similar fishy smell in that dresser too. They said OK. After all our new replaced bedroom dresser n night stands n other dresser came in and were held for us at their in-store back stock room, they called us to come inspect it which we did n although it smelled a little better, it still had a slight lingering fishy smell in most of the drawers. At that point, we just said F&@&ck it, because we weren't going to get a refund just a store credit which we DID NOT want so they delivered all of our furniture. So even though we were satisfied with the well built quality of all the furniture, after the horrible experience with the bad fishy smell, we will not be buying any more furniture at Haverty’s or recommend them do any of our friends/family. Till this day every time we open up our drawers the smell is still there. When we do laundry and the thought of putting our clean clothes back in those drawers we cringe. We cannot get rid of this smell. So frustrated! Not happy...
Read moreHorrible customer service. They're nice until you need to cancel a order because the table's delivery date kept getting pushed back (I know that was not their fault) I told the sales man on the 17th of March to cancel the order after he tried talking me into staying on line for the table. Ended the call saying he will cancel the order and I told him I will be back later in the year when it's back in stock. On the 21st I had to do the live chat with havertys and they said it was never canceled. I called Myrtle beach and took 3 times to finally get someone to cancel the order and was told the refund will be in 5 to 7 days. 7 days later I did not see a refund so I do the live chat again. They told me to call credit services and credit services said they didn't issue the refund and it will be another 3 to 5 days. Thankfully I didn't need the money but I normally don't check for refunds and since I had to check 4 times and make a lot more phone calls when Sloan was supposed to cancel the order I'm not happy. Owning a business in Myrtle Beach I don't have time to do their jobs. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THEM. There's much better furniture companies in Myrtle Beach and Ashley's had the same table I ordered online. Same stuff. Higher price tag. Horrible service. By the way I have calls, texts, and screenshots if anyone needs proof of how they acted. One mistake sure but 4 mistakes makes me think they're playing games. I will make sure I tell everyone I know to stay away. Go look at the corporate office google page. Reviews are all one star with the same customer service issues. They lie and once they have your money they don't...
Read moreThe furniture arrived with several issues: a broken bed, two broken chairs, and two others that were unstable. Additionally, two dresser drawers were loose.
There was also a mishap with the delivery of my mattress; it was not only late but was initially sent to the wrong address due to an error by the salesperson. Despite this, the delivery team refused to correct the mistake by traveling just 15 minutes to the correct location, ultimately returning my mattress to Georgia.
I was assured the mattress would be delivered the next day, although originally promised on the day of my guests' arrival. Following up with the store the next day, I was informed that the mattress wouldn’t arrive until May 2. This delay, coupled with the damaged furniture, resulted in a frustrating experience. The customer service was unsatisfactory; the manager offered no solutions, anything such as maybe adding a warranty for the damaged pieces, which only added to my disappointment. It took months to even schedule a repair, and the service technician agreed that the wait was excessively long.
Reflecting on my history with Havertys, where I've spent $20,000 in the last 2.5 years, I am disheartened by the decline in both product quality and customer service. The lack of follow-up from the manager, especially regarding a warranty for the damaged items, has led me to decide against future purchases from your store. I had higher expectations based on past experiences, but recent reviews suggest that these issues are not isolated to my...
