Enjoyed my first visit to Butcher Boy’s and left most satisfied. Although we are still dealing with the virus and new rules for public gatherings service was just fine.
The Bacon Cheeseburger with fries and a drink was tasty and very good. The menu is diverse and making a selection is not an easy one. My lunch partner had the Patty Melt with very nice looking Onion Rings. There was no food left when we finished.
Unsweetened Iced Tea is delivered to you by the server and obtaining additional tea was no problem.
What made this visit so worth while was my discussion with Billy the Butcher about their Hot Sausage. As a newly transplanted citizen from New Orleans there are culinary pleasures that are difficult to find. And Hot Sausage is one of them.
Billy allowed me a sample of this delicacy and I was impressed. Brought a smile to my face and had the taste buds dancing up a storm. The Hot Sausage is delicious, tasty, and, above all, grows in intensity. Really done right and to such a level I left the restaurant with a pound to prepare and enjoy at home.
Now only if I could locate some true French Bread.
The food, service, and treatment here will have me as a new regular at Butcher Boy’s.

Butcher Boy’s Revisited
It was time to revisit this restaurant to see if Billy and crew were at the top of their game. And they are without question.
Service is quick and friendly. Food is delicious and the menu is wide ranging. The wait for your hot food is short. Now you are able to obtain your own refills if necessary for your drink selection.
Today the Sliced Brisket sandwich was enjoyed by my lunch partner. It came with French Fries and the portion was more than he was able to finish.
My selection was the Bacon Cheeseburger fully dressed. Substituted Potatoe Salad for French Fries. All was tasty and satisfying.
And before leaving placed my order for Five Pounds of their remarkable Hot Sausage.
This is a place once you visit you...
Read moreThere really isn't service as you walk up to the bar and order what you want and they holler out your name you get up and go get it and take it to your table. So it's kind of hard to give more than two or three stars for service because they don't actually have any service they just take your order Aside from that I had read the reviews that said their burgers were great. I consider myself somewhat of an expert on burgers as they are one of my favorite foods and I have eaten them in all forms in most countries around the world The best burger I have ever had was in a little place just north of Lufkin called Mom's Too. That man love burgers and truly knew how to make a phenomenal Burger. But it was just too small to accommodate as much customers as he would need to make it profitable enough so he ended up closing I learned that his mother had a diner in Lufkin appropriately called Mom's diner So I hightailed it all the way into Lufkin and ate at Mom's. Their burgers are the second best and only slightly less good than the ones he's soon made But I decided that I needed more than one burger place so I would give butcher Brothers a try. I was pretty disappointed. Even though the sandwich had both mayonnaise and mustard, lettuce, thickly sliced tomatoes and pickles, it was dry. The patty must have been made of super lean beef so, not only was it overcooked and dry, it was devoid of flavor. An even with all those vegetables, the entire burger was dry However the onion rings were wonderful. I gave this three stars because I only have tried the hamburger. If I go back I will try the chicken fried basket or maybe even a chicken fried steak and that may well change my opinion. But, as it now stands, from someone who truly appreciates and knows a good burger, Mom's diner in Lufkin...
Read moreWe came in as we were passing through. I was referred by a friend. At first glance everything is great. Cute old school bbq atmosphere. Great staff. Fast service. It all fell apart when the husband realized this establishment did not have ribs, which was what he wanted. From there he ordered a two meat plate with sausage and brisket with baked beans and potato salad. I ordered a chopped brisket sandwich, a bag of Lay’s potato chips, & a fountain drink. I could tell by the looks of his sausage we were not in the heart of German and Czech BBQ country we are used to. It appeared to be more like Eckerich sausage than anything we typically eat from our local BBQ restaurants back home. The brisket had evidently either never been in a smoker at all because there was zero smoke ring or smoke flavor, or it was overcooked and loaded with sauce to smother the flavor all together. It was a bland sauced mush. My brisket sandwich was not great at all. It’s the first time in my lifetime that I have ever had to force myself to finish my food. That is saying a lot. It was so finely chopped it was more like baby food.
I guess living in a town that has the Texas Monthly top 10 BBQ and all of the BBQ my German/Czech family has made over the course of my lifetime has truly spoiled me for eating at any BBQ establishments outside of Washington & Fayette Counties! I am a BBQ snob, that’s for sure, but I’ve had better out of the local HEB, so that’s saying a lot. Your money is better spent elsewhere if you’re looking...
