Born & Bread: Mercantile and Bakery — Restaurant in Nantucket

I was so excited to take my boyfriend here since he personally loves to bake sourdough bread. We asked one question (to put the egg sandwich on sourdough) and were snapped at. We were 6th in line. I would understand if this was halfway through the day and someone was a little tired but the bakery JUST opened and we waited in line on a very hot day. I then ordered something random since they wouldn’t do this for us (I was honestly shocked they wouldn’t do the slight change) and instead I got slightly burnt toast with jam. I was disappointed. I also had multiple eye rolls at me when I asked for the iced tea that they forgot to give me and ignored me while I had to ask three times for it. His food was great but the terrible customer service seriously...

Food here is very delicious and space is gorgeous.. customer experience was a bit disappointing today though. After spending 60$+ tipping 20%, we received our vanilla lattes which were so unbelievably sweet and tasted purely of stevia, which I don’t drink due to a GI issue. I politely asked the lady at the register if this was sugar free since it didn’t say anywhere that they only had sugar free syrup. When she said yes, I asked for our lattes to be remade without syrup since I wouldn’t have ordered vanilla if I knew it was SF. She was very rude and annoyed and said “okay…..”, made me feel very uncomfortable. You guys should advertise that your syrups are sugar free and not be extremely rude when someone politely asks you to remake a...

I love the baked goods, sandwiches and coffees here. Unfortunately I had a very poor service experience with one of the staff today. I asked for a specific eclair because it had the most filling. A dark brown, curly haired woman said “Seriously? Are they really all that different?” then reached into the case and pulled out the tray. She ended up dropping two of them and then tried to blame it on me saying “See, this is what happens”… I didn’t drop the eclairs? The attitude was really unnecessary, if the eclairs were all uniform I wouldn’t ask for a specific one, and I really don’t think it was that tall of a request. I’ll be back, but I hope someone talks to this lady about her customer...
