Out of the park! Huge shoutout to Amado, the executive chef for getting right what so many get so so wrong; a fish supper. As a Scottish American, I take my fish and chips seriously, and the last time I ordered it in a restaurant (way up in grayslake, not here) I was served what sort of resembled an overcooked, dried out version of something the Gorton’s fisherman threw up, so naturally I was put off. Amado, and Old Town Pour House turned my opinion around! What Amado delivered was crunchy on the outside, moist, flaky, and delicious on the inside! And that’s AFTER I absolutely drenched it in malt vinegar! Understand that a proper fish supper in Scotland, England, Ireland… They use haddock or pollock. A wide, flat piece of fish that holds a heavy coating of batter on it. In America, cod is the primary fish used, and while it’s delicious, it’s difficult to hold the batter, and what often happens is you pick up your fish and it falls out of the batter and you’re overcome with a sense of disappointment. From bite one to the last bite of my second piece was consistent! The batter held! Both pieces were cooked to perfection! I was over the moon happy with my dinner, and while I’m no professional food critic. I take my dinner seriously in the sense that I’m paying for it not with sponsorship dollars, but my own hard earned wages. I feel I have the right to be happy or unhappy in what I spend my money on. Amado and Old Town Pour House delivered bigtime! In these trying times, it’s important to lift each other for a job well done, and I made it a point to thank Amado personally. He asked me to leave a google review, and I was more than happy to lift him for his success! Well done Amado! Well Done Old...
Read moreWe sat outside because we had our dog with us. There were others sitting outside as well. It took forever to get a server to come by our table. After tge hostess sat us several servers walked by, looked at us, and walked away. We finally motioned for one to come over who said they would find out who our server was. And we waited some more. Meanwhile the hostess sat another party behind us. Finally a waitress came out and apologized and said she’d be our server. You could tell she had a sense we’d been waiting quite awhile. She took our drink order but not our food order and instead of going ahead and placing the drink order inside to expedite things for us she instead went to the table that just sat down to get their drink orders. Their drinks came out before ours as did their food. Food once it arrived was pretty good. They were serving from their brunch menu. I got the “Ball and Biscuit” which was a chicken biscuit sandwhich with chipotle maple glaze, candied black pepper bacon on a green onion cheddar biscuit and it came with a side of cheesey potato casserole. It was good, definitely a fork and knife sandwhich. My husband got the Nashville hot chicken wrap which he aid was ok, nothing special. For my drink I got the Bourbon Smash which was made with mango syrup, strawberries, mint, and orange bitters. It was pretty much colorless when it arrived which raised speculation. It was good but I didnt taste much if any mango., but still had a good flavor. When we got the check the server handed us a “we value your opinion” survey QR code and apologized again for having us wait so long and followed that with how much she’d appreciate a 5 star rating…. Read moreInteresting up and down experience. Our waiter was a very nice young enthusiastic man. And the fiery shrimp appetizer was incredible but that's about it. They brought us out to WhistlePig whiskeys with flat soda. They fiddled with the machines or whatever and got them to work correctly they said that they were comping us one of the drinks. At the end when he was getting our bill ready I reminded him and he said oh yeah. So more to come on that in a minute. We had our barbecue platter delivered. It was just okay. Nothing special at all. Even with the sauces. The corn had absolutely zero flavor which I never experienced before. But I guess that's what you get when you order barbecue at a non barbecue place. Lol. They also forgot one of our sides that came with it and we had to ask for it. Then the young man comes to our table and says he can process our bill at the table so we said great. All he did was hand us the little thing that had the total on it so we asked to see the bill. He said if we sign it he can print it out for us at the end so that's what we did. Did he know this? When we got the bill we were charged for three whiskeys with a credit for one. So basically we did not get credited like we said we were going to. Not cool. But in the end we ended up speaking with the manager . He said our server should have showed us the itemized bill before he just showed us the total. But he did make us feel better about things by making accommodations . This is the reason they got two stars...
