A cozy, casual, Italian culinary wonderland. The Grappino (named after the famous Italian 'grappa') is one of the newest Italian destinations nearby downtown Naples.
This lovely restaurant is 3 concepts in one: outside, it's like eating al-fresco at a local bistro... In the main dining area, it's a small diner with barely a dozen tables, adorned by beautiful Murano glass balloons suspended in mid air... Walk around the corner, and it's a lounge/bar with a myriad of delicious grappas on display, including some in the process of maturing in the bottle.
The wine list is very respectable and diverse, purposely priced for the casual diner. The menu is cleverly devised: small appetizers, a variety of bruschetta's, and a fun way of ordering pasta... Pick your type of pasta first, then choose the sauce/preparation you desire!
The "Roman style" pizza is much like in Rome, ordered "al metro" by the meter), meaning it's rectangular in shape, and can be ordered by length of measurement. For the more sophisticated customer, braised wagyu beef, korubuta pork, and salt-cured chicken are excellent choices.
Of course, the main attraction is the long and impressive list of fine Italian grappas!!! If you're unfamiliar with the taste and varieties, ask the manager (not the waiter) for assistance. The younger the grappa, the sharper and stronger it tastes. The more "barrel aged", the smoother and flavorful. The Berta Elisi is a great, middle of the range introduction to the world of grappas.
This lovely restaurant belongs to same family of other delicious destinations: Barbatella, Sea Salt, and Dorona, and it will surely become one of the newest 'happening' places in Olde Naples.

Read moreVisited Grappino's for a wonderful dinner during a Rod Stewart tribute performance. Not sure what I was expecting - but the entire evening far surpassed anything I was thinking. The staff is truly dedicated to providing a complete and quality experience. The food was absolutely terrific. Starter was a breaded mozzarella with tomatoes. Next came a pasta and lamb dish that I wish was "never ending". The sauce had to be made by artists - simply great. Entrée was a grilled branzino over potatoes. Made to perfection. The dessert was a cream filled pastry that was a bit like a mix between a cake and a cheesecake. Made you feel like you were in Italy. And then on top of all that - the Rod Stewart tribute performer was playing and we remembered every song. He was very entertaining and made the night one of the best we had a long time. When's the last time you enjoyed a dinner with singing and dancing? Wow! Grappino's pulls everything together to make sure you enjoy every second you are there. While the staff is terrific - I'm sure it's because Athena (GM) holds her team to a very high standard. We wanted for nothing. The space is open and bright. Very modern feel. We are going back for our next visit to try their pizza. Please visit this fine establishment and truly enjoy a meal experience that will keep you coming back. I promise - you will not be disappointed. ...
Read moreThree of us women met here for lunch on Thursday. One had been here before with her husband for dinner (pizza) and recommended it. We ordered 2 salads and a seafood BLT. Our waitress Mimi was very professional and attentive. Our food, however, was very disappointing. My beet salad was tiny and tasteless as was the other salad. The sandwich at market price ($24) was bone dry, had 2 shrimp, a few small pieces of lobster, overcooked bacon, and what appeared to be canned crabmeat. We ate less than half of our meals, paid the bill, and discussed our disappointment with the food. We decided to speak to the manager to give him some constructive criticism as we were the only people seated in the restaurant.
The manager was NOT receptive to what we had to say and said we should have complained while the food was still on the table so that he could have done something about it. He told us he had customers who frequently came for the salads and made us feel as though he did not believe us. We said we were trying to be helpful (since the restaurant was completely empty) not get out of paying the bill. He made no effort to apologize or do anything to make up for such a bad meal. Poor food and very pricey. I definitely...
