It had been over a year since I had last eaten at J&N. It was always one of my favorite "after church" places, but we just fell out of the habit as things got a little tight financially. So, I was excited when my partner said, "hey let's eat out this evening, somewhere we haven't been in a while." My favorite was always the baby-back ribs, and I couldn't wait to get my order, remembering how the meat literally fell off the bones, so juicy and tender. The service was good and the wait time reasonable. The ribs looked pretty good when I saw them coming. Here's where everything went downhill. I picked up my knife and fork to just push the meat off the bone as I used to do. Nothing doing. I began sawing at them with my knife and it was a struggle - so much so that the entire rack flew off the plate into my lap- nice. I put them back on my plate and finally got a rib detached while my partner held them still with his fork. I picked it up with my fingers and tried to tear the meat off the bone. I'm not kidding, it really was like shoe leather. I was so disappointed! I decided not to make a fuss and just eat my 2 sides, but my partner insisted on calling the server over. We politely, and in a low voice, told her that the ribs were way too tough to try to eat and that I couldn't even cut them with the knife. She didn't seem surprised, and offered to bring something else. I went with the pulled pork, which was good, but I'm not so fond of pork. Anyway, we probably won't go back because I've worked as a cook before and I know you would have to be blind or simply not give a rip to not notice how tough and inedible those ribs were. They should have just sent a notice that they were out of ribs and asked if I wanted to order something else. I wonder if this is due to J&N trying to save money with really low quality meat? At the very least they could have offered to pay for cleaning my grease-covered pants, though I would have...
Read moreDriving from DC to Ft Worth, my fam and I decide to stop for the night in Nashville. As BBQ fans, we searched and found Jim & Nick's BBQ. We were seated, liked the atmosphere and the smell of good food had us anxious to get some good grub. Oh. My. Lord. The ribs! So good! The mac n cheese was absolutely inspired! The collard greens... oh, my! and The smoked turkey was so tender and flavorful! We are a BBQ loving family but all of us (me, my wife, and both of our sons) were absolutely blown away by Jim and Nick's!! until... bad service... if other servers hadn't been available to call on, we would have been pretty angry. Our waiter never checked on us. We were seated in the bar area. There were only 2 other tables with patrons seated in the bar area. 2 or 3 other patrons sat at the bar. But our waiter spent at least 15 minutes at only one table, (other servers delivered the food to us), we had to ask someone else to bring us refills for our tea and soft drinks, and we had to wait almost 10 minutes, after we were finished eating, to get our bill. Very disappointing. After almost 11 hours of driving, we were too thrilled to get such amazing BBQ, and yet, our server let us down. I should have spoken with the manager but my wife settled the bill (she left a tip only because the servers split the tips and, even though ours was no help to us, the other servers picked up his slack). Still, and let me be absolutely clear on this point, JIM & NICK'S BAR-B-Q is the BEST BBQ we've EVER had and we will most definitely eat there again the next time we are in Nashville. We just hope we get a server who is better than...
Read moreThis was our 1st time trying Jim and Nick’s BBQ. I have to say it did not disappoint.
What started as a small gathering ended up blossoming into a group of 11 people.
There was a table immediately ready, as the group trickled in we found our seats. Drink orders were promptly taken followed by our meal orders.
I am not a BBQ expert by any means, but I know what I like when I taste it. The food came out really fast for a party that large.
I have the two meats plate with two sides. The pulled pork and the brisket was very good, but the sauces that it came with were next level. I had the mac and cheese and the corn on the cob.
I wasn’t totally blown away by the corn, but they delivered on the Mac and cheese.
Other people in our party also enjoyed their food, including my wife who ordered a baked potato, that was easily the size of small child’s head.
Leftovers were taken home, and we all agreed that it was a good place to eat. Funny part was it was literally pulled out of thin air as a place to go.
It was central to where we were all coming from, but in all honesty about 5 days prior to this I never even heard of Jim and Nick’s.
Now it’s on our radar and we are so thankful that it is. As Arnold so confidently says, “I’ll be back”.
We were so excited for our food we don’t even have photos....
