First the good- quality of food was slightly above average, with the portion size well above average. Server was friendly. Now for the issues that will never find us in there again. First off, while things appear clean as you are entering the restaurant (windows, floors), once you get to your seat (we had a booth) it is a completely different story. Our first booth's wall by the table did not look like it had been cleaned in quite a while- particularly glaring by the long human hair stuck on it which almost caused us to leave right then and there. We brought it to the attention of the server..... and.....We requested to move to a different table. This booth at least did not have a hair staring us in the face- HOWEVER, the wall again appeared to not have not reasonably been cleaned well in a while. We ordered and received our food in a very timely manner- and then as I ate, I saw the final issue. On their large flat screen TV was playing NEWSMAX (one step worse than FOX). If we had seen that prior to sitting down and ordering, we would NOT have stayed to do business here. To be clear- business owners are free to put whatever they choose on their public televsions. AND I, as the consumer, can choose to NOT spend my money in establishments that provide such 'entertainment' to their customers. As a footnote- I did ask the server if it was possible to put anything else on the TV. It did not happen. Likewise, even though we had brought that HAIR on the wall at our first booth to their attention- NOBODY bothered to cleaned it off while we were there. The TV issue caused my wife to lose her appetite immediately so we just boxed up our partially eaten meal and left. For the life of me- I will never understand a business owner's line of thinking in these highly polarized times. When most people go out to eat for dinner- the last thing they want to observe is the 'fake' news presented from 'the...
Read moreThe best Vietnamese I've had so far. I eat here frequently ever since I discovered this place (so sad it took me almost a year of being in Nashville to try).
Highly recommend:
Beef combo pho (6-meat combo): if you don't have any dietary restrictions, this is the best start to getting familiar with pho and the options. Also the best bang for your buck. Comes topped with all sorts of beef (rare sliced - which is literally cooked by the soup as it's poured in, brisket, flank steak, sliced meatballs, tripe (beef stomach, chewy), and tendon (slippery pieces of gelatin)), sliced onion, green onions, cilantro, and a side dish of extra toppings like bean sprouts, jalapeno, and basil. The fun of pho is being able to customize according to your preferences, and I highly recommend the squeeze of lime, hoisin sauce, and sriracha mixed in the soup! TIP: If you order this to-go, be prepared to break out a saucepan to reheat the soup, since the rare beef still comes raw and by the time the driver gets your food to you, the soup is too cold to cook the meat properly.
Bun bo hue: if you like tom yum soup in thai restaurants, this is a good relative to that. Noodles are far slipperier in this soup, so throw in some of the optional cabbage and bean sprouts to get some better grip with your chopsticks. Comes with pork cake (tastes like a meatball), brisket?, and beef tendon for combo A. Really recommend squeeze of lime and some of the chili-garlic sauce (unmarked bottle) to give it that spicy, sour taste.
It's too bad that I only discovered this gem two months before I moved away, but it's probably for the best before I got too fat off the...
