Was in Nashville for a co-bachelor/bachelorette party. During our first few days there we spent most of our time on Broadway. Mother's Ruin was strongly suggested to me by a bartender I met while ordering food at the Taco Bell Cantina at 3am after a night at the Wild Beaver.
We decided to go here as the last stop to chill out and have a couple drinks before it was time to head out for the airport to catch our flights home.
We walked in as a party of 4 but but we had luggage for 7 as we had 3 other friends meeting us there and we had their luggage. Before hoofing all the luggage into the bar I checked with the bartender if it was alright if we brought the luggage in and kept it with us by the bar. The bartender working at the time was Kay and she was super accommodating and had no issues with us being in all this luggage.
I feel in love with this place within the first 5 minutes of sitting down at Kay's bar! The menu and the cocktails list both looked amazing but the shining star of our experience was Kay! By herself she was able to serve a full bar and all of the tables in the place. The only other person on staff was the single cook in the kitchen and he was pumping out delicious looking order after order. Kay worked the role of bartender, server, expediter, food runner, and busser while making it look easy and with a smile on her face the whole time!
We stayed for about an hour and a half and watched the lunch rush put the kitchen in the weeds a little bit, but never anything too serious and Kay gave us a heads up that food may take a little longer than usual as soon as we sat down.
We had just eaten at our Airbnb, so we didn't order any food. I regret not trying any cocktails but we only had a few pickleback shots and waters in the time we were there.
Apologies for the long winded review but I can't fully express how awesome my experience was in the short time we were there. My rough estimate put the head count in the place at about 50-60 people at the busiest point (20ish at bar, 30ish at tables). I was so impressed with how now just how well Kay was able to take care of the entire front of house completely on her own but she also seemed to be having fun while doing it! We also had a skeleton balloon that we brought in (Left over decoration for the bachelorette party) and sat it at the bar with us. Right before heading to the airport we asked Kay if she would like to keep Mr. Bones, not only did she take it but she danced with him behind the bar and then hung him in the wall before we left.
Kay was amazing and the vibe of the whole place is exactly what I look for in a bar I would become a regular in. 5 stars...
Read moreLet me regale you with the tales of culinary ecstasy I just experienced. Picture this: I just arrived back from a long and arduous weekend trip in the mountains - upon my return I am left exhausted and stale from a lengthy drive, and after an hour of unpacking, prepping my spirit for the return Monday morning. It’s 9 pm, and I’m HUNGRY honey. As I do when I become this way, I rest my weary eyes on the glimmering green application entitled Uber Eats- one of the only applications that has rarely let me down (unlike Hinge…. or Bumble….. you get the picture). A mere 25 minutes later, a symphony of flavors dance upon on my palate; a divine creation that transcends mere sustenance, that g*damn fried chicken is a masterpiece of crispy perfection atop a bed of crisp romaine lettuce, generously adorned with parmesan shavings and loved on by the ambrosial Caesar dressing. The DRESSING!! WHAT are you PUTTING in the DRESSING and WHO can I give a little kiss to for more?? And oh, the waffle fries?? You’re sick for that. Each golden brown bite a revelation- it almost makes me believe in God… maybe even re-establish a relationship with my father. Dare I SAY, with each mouthful, I felt as though I was ascending to the heavens, where even the most devout of atheists would find themselves whispering praises to the divine- and I absolutely did. Thank you from the bottom of my chicken filled gut, and Amen. (I need more dressing immediately, and I haven’t even finished the...
Read moreI come to Nashville a lot and kinda got burned out by the same old places I have always gone to. So I tried this place at random and my expectations were exceeded.
I walked in with a book under my arm and the person at the door engaged me in a brief discussion about reading as a result. This set a sense of immediate comfort.
I sat at the bar and was waited on by Geordann (I inquired, which is the only reason I know how that is spelled.) He was thorough in explaining things and exceedingly friendly. Definitely the kind of person you want tending your bar. And as more people showed up and ordered, I realized he was familiar with the bulk of them. So more points to him...and more evidence that this is a comfortable spot with good folk.
while sitting at the bar, another customer struck up a conversation with me, again, about the book I was reading. So the clientele, at least as far as my experience went, was warm and intelligent.
Food and drinks were above average. A bit on the pricer side, but you get what you pay for. I had a falafel burger and savored every bite. All of the tastes put into it were well balanced.
in addition to the food, I also ordered some cocktails that were really solid. I spent over $60 total and felt none of the regret I usually feel when I spend $60. Everything was legit.
I will 100% return to this establishment. The food tastes good, the staff is exceedingly friendly, and the...
