Oh my word! Even better than I remembered. Three-ish years ago I came to Natchez and ate at Slick Rick’s. I remembered it as being so good that I wanted to eat there again. My impression-memory did not do me wrong. Did I mention it was even better than I remembered?
I had the Monte Cristo Reeto “wrap”…but this ain’t your typical wrap. This takes that term to a whole ‘nuther level. Make sure you dip it in the Tabasco jelly that it’s served with. Don’t worry. Barely any spicy heat. Just the right amount to add an amazing accent to the flavor. And speaking of flavor and dip, get the sweet potato fries and dip them in the caramel sauce. I know. Sounds crazy and it is. CrAzY good. Imagine sweet potato casserole flavor in a French fry. And if all that ain’t enough, I ordered a slice of eclair cake to go. If you like a super moist, Texas chocolate sheet cake, you gotta try this Slick Rick’s offering. This Mississippi cousin-of-a-cake is one of THE best desserts this side of the Mississippi. This size isn’t huge so don’t feel like you gotta share it. The Monte Cristo Reeto WAS big though so feel free to split that with your lunch date. But if it was me? I wouldn’t. The leftovers are going to be perfect for breakfast!
Btw, the brand new waitress Hailey did a lovely job and the been-there-for-more-than-a-minute Kelly was super helpful and knowledgeable. Eat outside, eat downstairs, eat upstairs, eat it to-go, just eat Slick Rick’s. I may find an excuse to do just that...
Read moreWe attempted to have lunch here after a long walking tour of downtown Natchez in the summer heat. As is my usual routine, I took my own stainless steel water bottle to stay hydrated on our walk. When we arrived at Slick Rick’s, we were directed to seating upstairs (not officially “seated”; we had to seat ourselves). Soon, the server (who was very sweet and polite, I should add) came to take our drink orders. Since everyone was hot and thirsty, we asked for “iced water”. The server told us they had bottled water. I asked if it was possible to get just iced tap water and she said no. So I decided I would just drink my already cold, iced water in my stainless steel water bottle. Everyone else in our party intended to order bottled water since apparently, that was the only option. But before we could place our beverage order, the server informed me that outside beverages were not allowed. I asked if that meant that I needed to go pour mine out. She said she would have to go ask her manager. She returned to tell us that we would have to sit outside. Since we’d already been out in the heat all day, we declined and left immediately.
This place has hard and fast rules apparently and didn’t mind having 5 potential customers walk out and lose their business all because of a partially filled water bottle. I don’t get it. Would never bother with this...
Read moreFood and staff always great (five star). I question the ownership. The last couple of times i have tried to call in an order the phone is busy. The wait to pay for an order or to place an order is always long. The long wait is normally due to the credit card machine tied into the only (busy) phone line, so you can't run a card unless the (busy) phone line is free. On multiple occasions I have witnessed customers walking out because of the long waits. The staff does their best to handle the lack of another $35/month phone line and put out all of the fires for the wait times. I understand not wanting to call AT&T and cough up the extra 35 on a line but its a small price to pay to serve more customers and create a less hostile workplace for employees. If you are not in a rush its great food and a friendly staff but you think the owner could make a couple of small changes and be able to get more of their...
