I use to love this place. Been going for about 24 years. I just had a bad experience I guess. First I get there and was about to order 4 slices. But they didn’t have any more slices for the day as the guy put it. So instead of paying $20 for 4 huge slices and 4 cans of soda. I paid $20+ for a 12” and a 2 liter. The 12” is tiny to say the least. You easily get more pizza for their 2 slices which they usually sell separately for $5 a pop and it includes soda a great deal that I was unable to get. One 12” is not enough for 3 people. It seemed to bother guy when we were trying to decide what to get instead of the pizza by the slice. But the smaller pizzas there aren’t really worth the money. Their Giant Pizza is worth it tho, but it’s too much for 3 and any pizza size that is for 3 is a ripoff. So now I know. I can no longer go there for the slices, it’s not worth it getting anything besides the Giant Pizza. I will only be able to order from here when I have guests and with COVID going on that’s rare these days. I’ve been going to Bronx Pizza on Washington St lately but I was trying to show my brother a different but still delicious pizza place. I failed miserably and now my family won’t want to come here and I’m stuck going all the way to Washington St for a simple slice of pizza. Dinner officially ruined. Everyone is still hungry and is giving me the stank eye. I ate one slice of the 12” in hopes that they would get full. It didn’t work. I filled up on soda. It’s always disappointing when you go eat somewhere and they don’t have what is being promoted at the register or...
Read moreMike's NY Giant Pizza in National City is a solid takeout spot if you're craving a New York-style pie. The pizza is thin, crispy, and flavorful, though it doesn’t necessarily stand out compared to other great pizza spots in the area. That said, it’s still a satisfying bite if you’re in the mood for a classic, no-frills pie.
One thing to note—they don’t do slices, just whole pies to go. However, they offer a variety of sizes, from personal pizzas to super extra-large options, so you can order based on your appetite.
This place is definitely set up for takeout rather than dining in. There’s plenty of parking, but only a table or two, maybe something outside. It’s not really the kind of place you’d want to sit down and eat; grabbing your food to go is the best option.
Beyond pizza, I tried the manicotti, and it was actually really good. The ricotta filling was creamy and well-seasoned, and the sauce complemented it nicely. I’d definitely recommend giving it a try. On another visit, I had the buffalo chicken fries, but they were underwhelming—just deep-fried shoelace fries smothered in buffalo sauce. Nothing special and something I could easily make at home.
Service here is really friendly, which is always a plus. And for dessert, the cannolis were solid—crispy shells with a nice, sweet filling. Overall, Mike’s is a great takeout option with a few standout items, but I’d stick to the pizza and the manicotti while skipping the buffalo...
Read moreWe just ordered 2 calzons they came approximately 14 inches wide with no toppings or fillings what so ever. It looked more like a flat bread with a slice of pepperoni and cheese. The ricotta was hard and tasteless. They didn't have any mushrooms on a Saturday night. The service was horrible and on top of that when we called in to complain the "gentleman" that answered the phone was rude and outright disrespectful. We asked to speak to a manager which hadn't been present for the past 2 hours. We then asked to speak with anyone in charge at the moment and apperantly no one had any idea who was in charge so they handed the phone off to some young individual. He began by saying no one here is in charge but I'm talking to you and when I stated that these weren't calzons he told me "do you wanna come in and show me how to make a calzons" which I thought was not the right response to give to a long time customer. This was by far the worst experience I've had at any pizzeria. I've tried to contact a manager a few times prior to this experience and he is never in so I am personally going in on Monday to speak with him in person. If the manager is not present or declines to speak with me my next step will be to speak...
