Have been working in Neenah all week, staying at hotel best west at grill location. Ordered 7 oz sirloin medium rare, came back medium well, worst steak I have ordered in years, first time ever I only ate 4 bites, did not even want to take leftovers back to hotel room., dry and overcooked. Also visited twice previously for lunch, two burgers ordered medium were almost raw in middle, no taste. Signature burger was nothing special for almost $13. I ate half. Ate with group of 4 previous night for dinner, and 3 people all commented after dinner how poor food was, not even average. One co-worker is vegetarian, ordered some type of skillet bean rice and veggie meal, specifically asked for no meat product please, was served with huge bacon chuncks. She had to wait for it to be prepared again as the rest of us ate. Will spend my $ at the local diner Twin City across the street, three times the flavor for half the cost, or Denny's or Perkins from now on. Ham and swiss sandwich for $5 was better there than the $13 burger at Ground round. Also had to wait almost 15 minutes to be seated for breakfast this morning. Meal was comp'ed by hotel so was free as far as i know, eggs and sausage was Ok, nothing special, but I was in a hurry had to get to work for my client. There were three of us waiting to be seated at separate tables, all in a hurry before the work day, no waitress or hostess around. Pretty poor service also. I will be back again for free breakfast but will be looking elsewhere for...
Read moreMy son and I stopped into Batley's Grill and Bar, attached to the Best Western, Bridgewood Resort in Neenah, WI this week for a quick bite. We sat at the bar for the full-menu service, but they also have a quieter dining room, and a spacious, covered patio with pickleball courts, a playground for kids, and other outdoor lawn games!
Pictured is the prime rib sandwich that was special ordered without the grilled onions and cheese listed on the menu for allergy reasons. The special order was handled perfectly, although, admittedly it diminished the photographic appeal of the sandwich a bit. The beef and bun were really good quality and the skin-on fries were tasty.
Even though the rest of menu looked better and more home-made for a pub-style eatery, the highlight of the evening by far was Batley's staff! In this era of corporate eateries and lack-luster customer service, Emmerson and Liz were some of the most friendly and talented bartenders I have met in a while. We watched as the they hand-muddled old-fashioned's and hand-smashed mint for mojito's at a quick pace. The place was hoppin' and they kept up with the food and drink orders with professionalism and ease...and were friendly and attentive to customers on top of that flurry of activity. Very special people and we will be back to try more on the menu just because of their kindness and skills.
It's our favorite...
Read moreWith all the good reviews, I was expecting a great time Saturday night. Alas we were very dissatisfied. Repeating the phrase. "I'm so sorry about that" didn't make up for the wrong food, poor quality, and slow service. Hostesses were a bit unsophisticated, but happy they offered us crayons and a coloring sheet. Hard enough with an 18 month old and no high chair, her patience wore out after a long wait (about 35 min?) for our order to arrive. Drinks were delicious, delivered on time, and the highlight of the evening. Whoever delivered the food, didn't wait to see if anything was wrong or if we needed anything else. They goofed on my sandwich, so I munched on some of the overcooked chewy onion rings and waited a few more minutes for our server to be flagged down. When my order was fixed, I hadn't much of an appetite anymore. My husband's steak was alright, nothing special. Fries were also truly lackluster, some were edible, many were not. Our server was friendly but forgot our 2nd drink, that took another ten minutes. We took it to go. Terrible value overall. Wish we could have given 5 stars, but that goes to broken tree pizza, well worth the short drive from our hotel. We had twice the quality for half the price. I'd avoid ground round on a Saturday night, and unfortunately I wasn't comfortable trying the breakfast. We went to McDonald's for that...
