I want to share with you all my piss poor experience at Hurricane Wings today (Neptune Beach Location)
Me and my bestie were having the typical what are we going to eat for dinner discussion and we should go to Hurricane Grill. I was OK with this spot because I knew I could get my wings grilled... because there is no way I would be eating them fried.
I asked about the grilled wings as soon as we were sat and the waitress informed me that they would be unable to do the grilled wings today because they are "so busy"... but that she would ask their manager to see if they could make an exception.
She comes back says they can. I order, she comes back and says she apologizes, but they will not be able to do the grilled wings. I say OK. I look at the menu decide there is nothing on it that I would want other than wings which I would not order and decided not to eat. I was OK with my decision not to eat. Though I was getting light headed for lack of food I would wait until I got home and eat something to coincide with my diet restrictions. I get it, I am at a wing spot. I get that there wouldn't be many options for me. I was lil mad if mad at all about the situation.
Waitress comes back. Says she asked the owner and they were going to make the grilled wings for me. Excellent thank you so much!
My wings come out in 15 or so minutes with Cris's wings... Anyone who knows anything about grilled wings knows they are not going to be ready in 15 minutes.
I look at them they are fried... with grill marks. The cook or slimy bastard as I now think of him or her... literally tried to feed me fried wings with grill marks on them.
I call the waitress over and first she tried to tell me that she promises me they are grilled. I ripped the wing apart and say no it's fried with grill marks. She then tries to explain to me that they fry wings a "little bit" in order to assist with getting food out timely, but that after that they put it on the grill. I said I do not want anything that has been submerged in grease. I do not want this food, I do not want to pay for this food and I do not want anything else.
She spoke to her manager and they waived the bill, but I still think that is the rudest most unprofessional experience I have ever had in a restaurant. The manger nor the owner even came to apologize for this blatant disrespect. Greasy food literally makes me ill. Had I ate that it would have made me sick and they wouldn't have been able to do anything about it. I don't blame the waitress for what happened, but I do blame her for trying to justify that BS. I also blame the manager and the owner for allowing me to be treated this way as a customer and not address it in any way shape or form.
They were never my favorite wing spot, but they damn sure are gonna be my NEVER AGAIN wing spot. I just am still shocked that they actually tried to play that off like I wouldn't know...
Read moreArvid, Kenzie, Lily, Larkin and the sweet darling that looks a bit like Lily (sorry, luv, my memory for names isn't what it was), and all the sweet lovely customers and others in Hurricanes on Tuesday the 28th, (Chris, Sean, Fletcher, and ALL the others) thank you so much for making my 71st birthday so much better than it started out. I had, earlier in the day, learned that a close friend had received a very sad medical diagnosis and was hospitalized. I was not in form at all, but much less for a birthday, but some of my closest dear friends (missed you Tim and Jess and Brenda) and my husband talked me into going to Hurricanes and playing our regular Tuesday game of trivia to try to find some semblance of normalcy. What a wonderful evening it turned out to be thanks predominantly to the antics and interaction with Arvid and his delightful staff and wonderful, fun loving customers. I was able for a bit to forget the reality of life and just enjoy for a time living in the moment. The food is wonderful (try the fried ribs) the drinks are amazing (work your magic Kenzie) and the trivia crew are delightful and entertaining (thanks Fletch and Sean and the handsome scorekeeper who's name also keeps escaping me). If you want your own "Cheers" or whatever the current equivalent is, try Hurricanes on Atlantic on a week night, particularly a trivia night. It's a blast whether you're 21 or 71. Love you guys. See...
Read moreMy first time there, dining with my family. We were seated immediately, but it took over an hour to get our food after ordering. The waiter was AWFUL , he had no clue what he was doing. He messed up almost everyone in our group's orders, forgot stuff, had to be asked 3 or 4 times for anything we asked for, never refilled our drinks etc. He honestly came across as a clueless idiot the entire time. My order of sliders was missing 3 things (cheese, mayo, fries) and it took almost 20 mins to get corrected, after repeatedly reminding the waiter what was wrong and that I was still waiting for it to be fixed. By the time it finally was, my food was cold and everyone else in my party was done or almost done with their meals. When our check finally came, they refused to honor one of their own coupons that didn't expire for several months yet. When asked why, we were told "they had just decided not to accept them anymore". There was never a manager or owner around to complain to. The entire experience was horrible and I will not be back. I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone I know. There are hundreds of other great restaurants...
